Why do those controllers feel like such cheap shit when they cost like 1/3rd the price of a brand new quest 3.
Can't even use third party vr controllers

To be fair, the tracking on them Is excellent. But yeah they could have and should have done way more with it.

I think they deliberately made them sparse for fear of scaring off the most casual players, although I would rather just more face buttons than a dpad.

I think being sparse is better for vr controllers because you can just map functions to the body like most newer games do. You don't need a dedicated flashlight button when you can just grab it from a chestpocket.

There's no real use for a dpad. If you want to play a 2D game, then use a 2D gamepad or a Keyboard. In any other situation there are more usable control interfaces.

Yeah, it sucks that they don't just open source the specs needed to make your own tracking controller and force you to pair it with headset instead of with the PC.
You can get SteamVR controllers working with it supposedly with openVR-spacecalibrator, but that requires using PCVR as a go-between.

No, Xbox does a similar thing with their controllers. If they are the lowest common denominator, then anyone putting more R&D into controllers just wastes effort because everything needs to work on the lowest common denominator controllers anyway.

Any game. They are comfy controllers. It's nice to strap in and play vidya on an imax screen, but normal non-vr games need a d-pad
