I remember when this game came out in 2006. People talked about it but it wasn't groundbreaking. HOLY FUCK the intro is good. The lightning is good. The animations are good. The level design ? The "gamefeel". Reminds me of the Darkness, Fear and Condemned.

I swear the closest thing to the time machine you can experience is to find a game from decades back that you should have played but didn't, it's so deeply emotional.

Great game. Lots of fun weapons, combine that with all the space-time-size-gravity fuckery happening and it makes for a hell of an experience.

The multiplayer was great too, I wonder if there's still a server going in some far-off corner of the internet.

It's dripping with soul. I played it in 2008, and it became one of my fav FPS campaigns. People at the time were retards and didn't realize what it did well (handcrafted detail in most rooms and encounters, constant ideation, almost no "corridor with dudes" level design).

context is everything
we had an excessive number of good shooters back then, and the future seemed like it would flood us with more and more
sure, they were derivative and we criticised them for not innovating enough, but we didnt know the entire genre would regress with COD4 and the xbox 360 generation, and pretty much die with the ps4 generation
looking back, i dont think we were being too harsh, just that we overlooked many games that we would now like to play/replay because these games arent being made anymore

having a niche vs completely taking over the genre for decades is not the same thing

the 90's had simcade (more so the cade than the sim but you get it) like MoH 2002 on PC, movement shooters like Q and Unreal, the autistic early hyperrealism attempts as you said, counter-strike, firearms (real if you remember), natural selection etc

the genre started to die in 2008 and was gone by 2015, even in the late 2000's we had plethora of choice no one was going hungry

I agree with your premise though

Man here I am deep in the middle of the night having one of my favorite emotional experiences (the pool of such games that can induce this feeling is limited) 5 or 6 days after the 19th birthday of this title

I remember myself in 2006...I remember how life was like and how this game was seldomly brought up after school

and I'm sharing this outburst with anons...what a bliss...again I think it's not about the game but more so about what playing it (and getting exactly what I wanted) represents.

This thread restored a little hope I had in gamers. You all have pretty good taste and I appreciate the thread.
Think i'll play second sight now, I always wanted to play prey and second sight to completion after playing a demo as a child.
I got a lot of other games I wanted to finish too that I only got to play the demo.

I went to myabandonedware

I downloaded the pack that says "Repack by MagiPack (includes all required fixes)"

unzip and run the installation file (make sure to know where you are installing it to) then go the directory you installed into right click the CoDSP go to properties and check "high DPI scale override" perfumed by "application", if you don't preform this step the mouse coursor won't appear after you change the resolution/ratio

I changed my resolution (2560x1600) in the config file it was like "set custom width" and "custom height" in the cfg file

very easy took maybe a minute but the DPI thing was only mentioned in the myabandonware comments and there was nothing on it in the PCgamingwiki so keep that in mind
