Both the OG and fan remake are 10/10, provide differing experiences and are completely capable of co-existing.
Anyone who believes otherwise is retarded.

Definitely a labor of love. I enjoyed the new Xen, but I'm not sure if the biome matches what the original creators had in mind. The Gonarch fight is a much better, more challenging and fun experience. If you're a faggot zoomer with a short attention span, Black Mesa is a great introduction to the Half-Life universe.

Just play the original, half life is not a clunky game. Its right when games actually became so much easier with understandable control schemes.

Play the authentic OG of anything that has a "remake." People can say what they want about "muh graphics," but there are always going to be changes that weren't the original intention. Whether it be colors, lighting, textures, dialogue, story, engine, bugs, glitches etc. It's best to play the original and see what the games were like when white people made them. If you enjoyed the OG, then consider the remake at your own leisure from the perspective of fans.

I really don't think so. I've played through the original HL several times and always enjoyed it. I've tried playing Black Mesa twice and dropped it after about an hour both times. Maybe it's a pacing issue, but the experience just isn't fun.

A good game, I wouldn't say it replaces the original but both deserve to be played, the only thing that bothers me is how stupidly dark everything is, it seems more Left 4 Dead 1 than Half Life.

They're different games, but I prefer the original.
- BM soldiers feel like Quake bots, always strafing left and right while firing with pinpoint accuracy.
- both games have an horrible level for different reasons, and that level is Interloper. The original had the free-for-all arena with no ammo, while BM is an almost 2-hour slog full of braindead puzzles and shooting galleries. They made a bad level even worse. Imagine reaching the conveyor belts and realizing you're not even halfway through the level.

You dodged a bullet because the Xen section starts in an awesome way, but suddenly becomes a 4~5 hour marathon to go through. I'm probably exaggerating, but it really feels like half of your total playtime is spent on Xen. It reminds me of Turok 2, which starts good, but after 2 levels, every level is 3 hours long.

There's a janky mod version for HL2VR made using the old 2012 version before Steam Greenlight let them charge money for future versions of the mod
it's pretty buggy and jank though, especially with how they had to work around a lack of required NPC and weapons code + other entities

It is a pacing issue of a sort, since BM very much uses HL2 as a blueprint. While HL feels more like an adventure where at times you might struggle for progress, BM feels like a theme-park ride. Even HL2 suffers from that same issue, but at least Valve knew how to keep things varied. BM sticks too close to the original's level design to pull that off. It's kind of trapped between worlds, in a sense

>>715714237
They're only 3 hours long if you get lost. Thankfully the masterful level design makes that completely impossible
