>make incredibly successful game
>get fired anyway
Why would anyone willingly work in the gaming industry at this point

The studio targeted by the lay-offs is actually a contractor studio that works on many other games. For example, they are responsible for the Cyberpunk 2.3 patch from yesterday. It's disingenuous to pin it on Oblivion Remaster.

That's been Bethsda's MO for fucking ages. Every studio they've ever published for or worked with has ended up with a knife in their back. Everybody always cites New Vegas fuckery, but Tango was meddeled in non-stop to the point all their games were a bit jumbled till Hi Fi. Call of Cthulhu Dark Corners was a ploy to kill and buy out its studios scraps. Not sure if it's more them or M$ for Arcane doing the whole Redfall thing.

>make game
They didn't make Oblivion
>get fired
They finished the work they were hired to do. What would they still be getting paid for? They don't make games.

Eventually people will stop joining these companies and then they'll have nobody to fire.

This is the contractor based system that publishers have been pushed towards
>Everyone should have a lifetime position in their company
>Also no AI to speed up development cycles
>Also VAs deserve residual payments
>Also we want bonuses for delivering on time
>Also we want compensation if the project takes too long
Honestly it took a very long time for video game production to turn in to construction style contracting but that's exactly what's happening here. You cant please everyone AND be a contractor AND pay VAs residuals (reminder that SAG AFTRA fought 5 years for this shit) AND get bonuses AND go over budget.

Very entitled mentality to feel you're owed a job when the entire industry is now balls deep in contract work. This is why it's really only internal studios that consistently put out good work on budget and after close working with the publisher. Everyone else, Virtuos included, are contractors and it's up to their business leads to constantly be pursuing new projects to keep workflow and income coming.

It's not like the remake turned half of the cast into redguards. Other than the body type selection at the start there wasn't anything super woke about the remake.

So chuds have just been gazing at stars and taking credit for business movements that have nothing to do with them and their culture war?

Nta but journalists have article quotas that they need to comply with. Which is why you so many click bait articles because journos need to write so many articles or else they'd be out of a job.
If you were a 3d designer for a game that jusr came out and theres no new projects or dlc coming up and you are considered redundant, then they have no use for you

Bethesda/Microsoft apparently canceled a new project and then told them to fuck off.

They honestly deserved to be laid off, because Oblivion Remastered was released in a terrible state. Not to mention that it took over a month to finally release a single patch, and two months to finally fix critical bugs that caused crashing. This kind of shit just can't be tolerated.

It's not subjective. The valence of someone's actions decides my sympathy for them. Make shit games, get fired, I'll be cheering instead.
