>>715736010I've never played any of the video games, but I've read a bunch of Gotrek & Felix Warhammer books and I love the world. I didn't realize it was all so Germanic. Every village and character has a Germanic name. I found that super unique for fantasy worlds. Everything else tries to borrow from a bunch of various cultures, but Warhammer is just like NO WE'RE GERMAN FANTASY WORLD FOR MEN. I also love that Warhammer doesn't follow the gay ass D&D route and make all the monsters victims. They're just fucking evil and must die. They also have the best Dwarves in fantasy. Haven't met any elves yet in the books though. What are Warhammer elves like?
For Warhammer 40k I've read the Eisenhorn and Gaunt's Ghosts books and they're also cool as fuck. I saw some YouTuber saying Warhammer 40k is all just silly satire and maybe I missed the point.. but in the books it doesn't feel like satire, it feels like an incredibly cool and interesting world that portrays some of the historically positive elements of fighting under a godlike monarch in a fascist society against evil enemies. There are a few social commentaries on humanity, but more in a cyberpunk sense and a general critique of corruption and zealotry. Like... everyone knows that the God Emperor of mankind is the good guy in this story right? Do Redditors hate mankind?
Do any of the games out there fit in with the lore of the 90s books or are they all modern and satirical slop now?
