People are so impartial so their childhood games it's insane. I used to be like that, then I started playing old games that people recommended and that I hadn't played when I was a kid. They were all awful experiences. Yes including OoT and Majora's Mask which somehow escaped me as a kid.

Early 3D games in particular were kinda weird, developers were clearly struggling to hit the same quality they were capable of in 2D games. Case in point, A Link to the Past is a much better experience than Ocarina of Time.

This doesn't necessarily apply to all early 3D games though, MGS1 is still great, so is FF7, etc.
