The entire story has a very forced drama to it even though it's well acted/VA'd. The entire conflict could have been resolved had the painted family worked with Alicia and the real family to save their painted world but also make sure Alicia didn't kill herself in there. Instead, everyone just decided to fight each other for no real reason. Verso was the one that fucked up first by letting Gustave die, the only guy Maelle/Alicia would listen to at all and fully trust. Everyone in the story is varying degrees of retarded except MAYBE Renoir but he's also a control freak, but understandably so. I hope their next game has a better story because overall it was still fun but the plot becomes dumb after a while.

There was no growing resentment. Alicia sees Verso as her actual brother and will do whatever it takes to keep him with her in the canvas.
Verso falls for her lies at first but sees the truth in her attachment and tries to end it via nuking the canvas.
There is no resentment, except for the brief moment when Alicia kills his sister right in front of him.
