No. Octopath Traveler, in specific, was offensively bad to me. It's like the most bland, generic copy pasted JRPG plot ever. It's like the opposite of a genre deconstruction: it flanderized the genre.

It's pretty good. You can tell the devs wanted to make a game they like. It also respects the player, there is no checklist reminding you of all sidequests, the map just shows locations, no GPS arrow telling you where to go, no 2hour long introduction either.
You start the game, know nothing about the world/characters but just by paying attention you get the basic idea.

It's like OP said, with AA you have studios small enough for soul but big enough to execute big ideas

I definitely did not think Crystar was anything special. I dropped it after a couple of hours.
