i read it as a teen boy, the age where sex, violence, and contrived systems are all the rage
literally laughed out loud when first route's sex scene came up like any good joke, it was completely unexpected

I wish I knew. It's the worst story with the most insufferable main character I've ever read.

You either missed the point or got hard filtered by the idealism. Shirou is written to be a contradiction, that's the whole damn point of his character. He's not supposed to be likable in a traditional sense - he's a trainwreck of trauma and self-denial wrapped in heroism. Watching him try to live up to an impossible ideal is exactly what makes his arc compelling. If that ain't your thing, cool, but calling it the worst story? Cope harder.

Why does Shirou think of himself as a hero?
