>>715765627He probably means tomb raider. But hes wrong. Because tomb raider is more than just a platformer OR an adventure game. Its the only adventure game ever with actual platforming and a HIGH FOCUS on platforming over combat (except for tr2).
But its also the only TRULY 3D platformer ever that TRULY takes advantage of the 3rd dimension in all its directions, while also having the most precise 3D movement ever, and also being the most challenging 3D platformer without relying on optional gimmicks, and I say all this without even factoring that it has some of the most complex and layered level design ever, in some ways surpasses Dark Souls just by sheer fact of how much that jump button takes advantage of the 3 dimensions.
I think that guy is wrong because tomb raider is such a standout and different platformer to everything before and after (no OG PoP does not count, I bet you ive actually played it and you havent, and one can tell how different TR feels comparatively, for one its way more open on average) that its not even really comparable.
The biggest flaw and weakness of classic tomb raider is that it was published by greedy evil capitalists that destroyed its potential, by silly subtle decisions like encouraging TR2 developers to add more action (Making the product entirely a mass apealing product rather than playing to TR's strengths. Which is also why TR3 is the best because its the most hated of the classics)
And because of that, the level design can be really inconsistent, because the people making the games clearly have no idea what the strengths of Tomb Raider is, and that only makes sense if theyre not being allowed to understand those strengths.
