Since it's late maybe we can have a civilized thread where people can agree or disagree about this.

I hate the MegaMan formula. Playing through long stages on your first go only to find out you picked the wrong one and being forced to restart the game to go try a different one and hope the boss is weak to the first weapon is dumb. I hate it actually. There's no pattern to finding out who is the best order. It's all pure luck based on your first go around.

I wish it weren't because the games are only fun and enjoyable when you pull up a guide to see what level order you're supposed to do

If you think this game's stages are too long, don't play Mega Man 11

Most 2D action Mega Man games are about 12 stages, give or take depending on the game. Part of the challenge is trying and experimenting to see what stages you can knock out, and going from there.

you can still beat most of them just with the buster. knowing the right order is ez mode but not the only way. at least in x1 you're only really forced to go chill penguin first for the dash which is rightfully criticized as being a flaw.

To be fair X1 isn't particularly hard even with no dash (Sigma stages included).

i've done buster only but haven't tried no dash. dashing is just fun though so i'd probably not enjoy being without it just for that reason even if the game isn't much harder.

You can beat any boss with just the buster though.

i agree to some extent, it's not just a matter of having the boss's weakness
sometimes you can't access something in a level without having a certain power, and this is also rare and it's not like there's something for every power, but either way that's dumb

where i disagree though is that it's okay to get a game over in a game, you don't need to know the easy route when going in to something blind

There's only a wrong order in X 1 because Chill penguin has the dash boots. Going in any order is fine for the rest of the games.

Every level is beatable with just the buster.

I used to always start with Storm Eagle as a kid because I found him the easiest with just the buster. Doing two stages without the dash boots wasn't really that bad when you felt like you had infinite time to play games anyway.

There's no real "wrong" or "right" order to complete the stages in, there are just optimal ones based on boss weaknessss that are optional to exploit, you don't have to follow that. As mentioned already ITT you can definitely beat bosses with the buster. You'll also have time to learn what all the boss weaknesses are with the boss rush toward the end of the game when you fight them all.
The only thing I don't like about it is that you have no way of knowing the difficulty of the stages and their bosses starting out. Naturally you would want to go through the easier levels first on a first playthrough but for all you know the first stage you pick could be the hardest stage in the game. And you don't know how hard the boss is going to be until you actually reach him. So the difficulty progression is kind of fucked if it even really exists before you beat the first 8 bosses.
Mega Man games are short and replayable though and I typically play them with the goal of attaining a certain degree of mastery rather than just beating the game and being done with it, so failing in a hard stage is just part of the process of getting better and death offers an opportunity to redo a part in a better way.

No offence intended, but using boss weaknesses is easy mode and the regular intended difficulty of the Megaman games is not using them at all. You can even go one step further and beat all the games without any additional upgrades or tools sans the mandatory ones in X1, which became regular base abilities in the sequel games anyways.

The reason why they're a thing over the usual difficulty slider in the settings is because fucking up a tough enemy with their weakness is far more satisfying, than merely beating it with your same weapons but it has lowered damage/speed/health than normal. It also feels better, because you're subconsciously thinking "I have outwitted my foe by exploiting their weakness" rather than "I'm a pussy that needed to reduce the difficulty to best this challenge". It's a far better way to handle game difficulty.

You can certainly beat the game that way but

That's pure speculation.

...get good literally. If they aren't weak to the weapon then simply use the buster. The early games alway made a point so that atleast half the bosses are easy enough to beat with just the buster. The only part that's bullshit about X1 is not having the dashboots for narrative reasons so a newbie is going to have a hard time if they don't naturally gravitate to Chill penguin first. But after that, the dash and wall jump mechanic make the X series ridiculously easy compared to classic. Classic is hard af because you truly have to read the boss pattern and hit hit all the tight timing windows to not just get bulldozed in like 4 hits. X you basically just hug the corner for every fight, some games even late you go off screen kek.

But you just said that the stages were long, and then went full retard when anon mentioned MM11 (a classic game, not an X game). And to answer you, you have the x-buster, and arguably every maverick/robot master is beatable with the buster, yes, elecman, crashman, woodman, armored armadillo, etc.

>tl:dr
git gud lol
