Skillup review unironically convinced me im never buying the game. He seems to be part of the few that actually somewhat understand death stranding (although still relatively surface level understanding, it was still a meaningful and important understanding because of how many clearly think the sequel "fixed" death stranding and how little kojima seems to care about gameplay, that he completely disregarded the very delicate coherence of gameplay mechanics in death stranding for a game that was already easily prone to being broken and thrown aside with vehicles and such.)

Skill up put it perfectly. Saying "the first game could be trivialized too!" isnt an excuse because even if thats the case, the immense combat focus shift, and flatter terrain. But MOST importantly, the fact that it was a sequel, that had EXACTLY the chance to address those trivializing factors and add immersive contingencies to vehicles and other traversals, just as Sam can only walk or run contingent on proper balance. Or hold his breath contingent on sufficient stamina, which is only meaningful if there is a gameplay factor to FORCE holding breath. Or detection of BTs conditional on not falling around all the time and fucking up BBs mood.

You see? You see how all these little subtle immersive factors that have to be considered as if youre actually there, feed into eachother?

All Kojima would need to do, to make a better sequel, is add these same principle contingencies to using vehicles.

And there are other stuff ive left out like the whole resource management aspect, that rain shit management, load management, equipment to engage with terrain etc.

Fuck off ShillUp, your review on Death Stranding 2 fucking sucked. How can anyone take that channel serious anymore after the Cyberpunk fiasco and his GoW:R review. That guy clearly doesn't know what a good video game is, where is his Sekiro or BG3 review?

>and his GoW:R review.
what was his problem with this video? dont care about cyperpunk, one game hyped up to heaven and back which was a basic open world scifi rpg game regardless of imperfect ai and such would appeal to plenty. that alone when there a dozen other games he could have shilled for after doesnt mean anything.

He praised the story and the writing of GoW:R, saying that it was a good conclusion to the Norse Saga. Anyone who played it knows that the ending of GoW:R is the most anti-climactic part. There were news reports about how the dev team didn't want to spend another 3-5 years to flesh out a proper trilogy and it shows. He even recommended the most normie mythology book "Norse Mythology" by Neil Gaiman (kek).

I can somewhat forgive reviewers when they base their reviews too much on their own personal experience and don't exclude the factors surrounding it, but when they also start praising some downright awful stuff (like the writing of GoW:R) then I know that they don't have an eye for quality.

Bro the twist with Tomorrow was immediately obvious even just looking at the trailers. Red Samurai being Higgs and Fragile being "dead" most of the game was more surprising. Fragile forgetting she dumped Lou into the care of Solid Snake was some peak bullshit though.

I don't know about that, man. I love the game a lot but only when I play offline and don't build roads and don't use vehicles unless the order requires it. Just like the first game I can't really recommend it to anyone because the way I can enjoy it is not the way the game is meant to be played.

I just beat it.

I liked it far less than the first because the game felt like it played itself with vehicles. No the first game did not feel like this. The story feels like a carbon copy of 1, structure and all, but the ending changes that. Once you get to like chapter 8 or 9 the game is great and never let's up but the beginning and middle of this game is entirely blurs together outside of, well, the ten minutes they showed in that one giant trailer. Because that's all there really was. Just like mgsv honestly. Can't believe that trailer literally showed the entire game. And yes it was incredibly obvious Lou is tomorrow although I really did like how it worked out rather than being super convoluted and 2 - 3 lous or something. God I hated fragile and rainy. The FUCK was the point of rainy and especially her being pregnant? Her story didn't even make fucking logical sense. It just seems like some Kojima fetish where he wanted a pregnant Asian to show her feet. The rest of the cast is fantastic. Higgs stole the show as did Tarman. But Tarman has probably less than 5 mins the entire game. His cat showed up THREE TIMES. Why were there no fucking cutscenes outside of the movie at the end?

Ds1 was way better. I don't feel like this game needed to exist at all. But after finishing it I don't mind that it does. The Neil plot ended up great. Felt it was going to be eye rolling and a lame retread of cliff but thankfully I was wrong

7.5/10, 1 was a 9.5

Im watching the review right now and I understand what you mean. Hes just gushing, unfortunately like mkst reviewers, seems i cant trust him for having one really apt take, but his perspective on DS2 truly is meaningfully true, it just happens to be the case because for whatever reason he was predisposed towards ds1, and already understood that Kojima is a shit storyteller, probably because of wider narratives (doesnt mean theyre wrong, just more than likely means he believes them because he cant really think for himself, despite ironically producing an opinion here thats contrary to majority)

I think when he talks about gameplay, and happens to not be predisposed to whatever aesthetic or form of gameplay, his review can be lightly insightful.

Basically when hes forced to be critical by his own bias

I'm conflicted because the game is an improvement overall but it has the same problems as the first game where you can optimize the fun out of the game. This time you get the tools to make the game boring earlier as well so if you suffer from OCD the game is gonna be super boring for most of the runtime.

Yeah it's great. I really love the gameplay loop.

DS2 honestly needs a difficulty setting above brutal difficulty, but it is still easily GOTY in my opinion.
