There is something in all of our monkey brains that fills us with an inexplicable urge to climb up a big thing if we're in front of it. So today we're gonna talk about games about climbing over, on top of, or across stuff. What are your favorite contenders to the category?

If you mention Peak I will find you

What did I just say anon?

No but really it is a sloppy slop game but it's a lot of fun with friends. I did 4 ascents total with 2 other people and I feel like that was a good group size. The spatialized voice chat really sells it.

You can't be mad for the like $8 they're asking for it.

White knuckle, the demo is free, go play it right the fuck now. Never before has a game instilled the same level of pants-shitting terror and panic in me as I've gotten from scrambling to hammer pitons into a sheer silo wall while ankle deep in a rising mass of people sludge trying to liquefy me.

Seriously, the last 4 days of my life has been consumed by this game anons, I haven't been this invested in a game in years.

I remember I ran into a interesting minor bug after beating the game where I was able to fling myself into orbit, and holding down the movement key in a certain way kept my velocity slowly increasing.
So my orbit just got bigger and bigger until I was in deep space and the original planet and sun were just tiny specks in the background. If you had megalophobia or thalassophobia I imagine that would've been a real trip.

Go play the demo, it's free. It's not SCARY scary in the way Amnesia or Silent Hill games are, it's scary in a "you're stuck in a flooding room and you need to guess the keycode for the door" sort of way. More suspense than outright horror.

Aside for Teeth I guess

You saw a peak and had to climb it? I know the appeal. It is freedom, in a place where we have so little. The world is a beautiful place from the top of a mountain. So far above the corruption and blood and darkness that has seeped into the ground of this land. I know. You have better things to do than philosophize up here with me. Take your leave friend. Just remember that you can always climb away from your troubles.

I had some fun with Lorn's Lure. Some of the workshop content is good too. His other game is very short and more straight forward but it was alright. Also, to the Anon who can't shut up about megastructures, here you go.
The most satisfying thing is climbing in games that aren't even about climbing. I'd say I have spent at least 60 hours in Cyberpunk just climbing high-rises with the Fortified Ankles cyberware.

Most games in the parkour genre tend to pivot more towards running with obstacles rather than climbing which is a shame.

I’ll never forget the experience of climbing the final mountain in Peaks of Yore. It took me like 6 hours, and by the end my hands were so cramped and clammy that I had to take breaks between each hold. Reaching the top felt like killing every Dark Souls boss at the same time. Such a thrill!

I'm fixated on doing all the boulders before moving on to the advanced peaks but it's killing my will to play. Just like in real life bouldering in this game is gay and annoying and significantly worse than normal climbing. Or am I just being retarded? Having to retry a few hard moves over and over with quick disorientating movements and jumps is a struggle for me, what's the trick for boulders?

I played the demo for Cairn a few weeks ago and I'm now really looking forward to it. The mystery meat protag with a british accent annoys the fuck out of me, but the gameplay itself is solid and I can see it being a real fucking challenge getting up that huge mountain, should be a comfy game for the winter time.
I'm also playing Jusant now since it was "free" this month, kinda the same concept as Cairn but a lot less mechanically demanding and in a very opposite setting. Its nice, but I haven't been eager to finish it, although I'm sure i will someday.
Most importantly, I've been playing Death Stranding 2 the last few weeks and I finally got to the big ass snowy mountain section i've been looking at in the distance this whole time. Setting up a zipline network to get from one settlement to go directly over the entire thing to the front door of the next place is so fucking satisfying.

Really the trick is to just get used to doing 180s with your mouse. You're gonna need to be able to do it on the advanced peaks anyway so failing on the boulders until you get it will be a lot less painful.

In a roundabout way rocket jumping is just parkour.

Outdoor simulation games are the most pathetic shit ever.
Just go outside. Go find a climbing gym, then go start climbing actual rocks. You are playing a simulation of something you can go out and do in real life easily. Why?? Play a game where you kill a dragon or defeat an evil empire or some shit. I saw a bird watching simulator on steam and it made me want to cry. Just go outside for Gods' sake you are recreating reality in a computer so you can replace your life.

Exactly, thats why i'm not eager to finish it. The game advertises itself as having a "chill meditative vibe" which just means its easy as shit and made for casuals. Playing that right after Cairn really made it apparent how serious that games mechanics are going to be, the thought of trying to beat that game on permadeath with no pitons is insane

Anyone remember a really old indie game someone shared maybe about 15 years ago? It had a really generic name like 'The Wall'.
>first person, looks like early Unity engine
>bright, sunny blue sky and white uneven size block wall
>you point a tool that looks like a shepherd's crook at a block and it slides out
>you slowly build a staircase up the sheer cliff face
>at one point you get jumpscared by a giant floating eye that's casually hovering behind you
