Special Week is the introductory POV character for the first Season of the anime. She was raised apart from the racing culture, akin to the real horse being raised with minimal interaction with other horses, so that works for the series' purpose of teaching both the character and the audience about the setting.

The real horse hated chestnut-colored horses and breeding, but that prejudice was largely left out for Uma Musume Special Week, and the breeding part isn't a factor in the series. Some anons have joked that the real horse being 1:1 in this would be a racist femcel.

They weren't able to finalize getting Deep Impact for the game, whether it was due to to his owner backing out abruptly or something else.
They had to choose a different horse as the protagonist and Special Week was chosen since he was also important due to his legacy in the sport. I assume they weren't able to give more unique character traits when translating him due to the sudden change in focus which caused them to rush designing the character.
