The main appeal for it back in the day was that it was a free "higher quality" MMO compared to WoW.
It was decent, but it was all instanced content outside of cities.
Classes and abilities were fun but it didn't feel like a true world

I strongly recommend making a character in Nightfall first unless you’re making an assassin or ritualist.
>Get Mox, a level 20 Dervish hero, right away making the first section of the game a breeze
>Get the other heroes much faster
>Additional 30 attribute points are much easier to get compared to the other campaigns
The game was fun back when people played it and you could get a group going in just about any mission zone, but it’s pretty dead now

getting a near-full suite heroes is MUCH more important for a new player at this stage in the game's life cycle than experiencing the story as intended. Henchmen can't really take you through missions.

Henchmen in Factions and Nightfall are way more than enough.
Only on Prophecies would you maybe have a bit of trouble, particularly in the later sections.

Not only will a new player have no skills for their heroes unlocked, they won't know how to effectively build for other professions besides their own (which itself they're still trying to learn), and having OP heroes makes all the content play itself with zero challenge.

It’s extremely easy to build them and unlocking skills is account wide. I wouldn’t expect a new player to commit to a main class right away unless they’re smart enough to pick Paragon.
Even if you don’t have the proper gear for them, just having a 7 hero squad makes the game so much easier to get into

you're not going to have OP heroes that play the game for you if you don't have skills for them unlocked and don't know how to build their professions (and the "play itself" team needs three Mesmers, to my memory, which you straight up can't get until Nightfall's post-game or through coughing up real money for Mercenaries)

Maguuma wasn't anything special. It's only in the desert and especially the southern shiverpeaks where the game starts kicking you in the balls.
I think the mobs were better balanced for a new player in Prophercies too where you didn't have debuffs/cleansing/interrupts going on in the background from the beginning which all got handled by your AI friends.

The mission where you have to kill the demagogue and stop the white mantle from controlling all 3 teleporters is a fucking nightmare with level 15 or 16 henchmen.
Also, it’s bullshit to scour the map for a boss once you get to Crystal Desert and hope he spawned in so you can finally start getting elite skills compared to how Factions and NF do it

It is a lot harder than you’re making it sound, especially for a new player. They’d have a much easier time using level 20 heroes with half decent builds that you can actually control
You can play the game in whatever order you like, I don’t know why you insist on choosing max difficulty. The only thing left to do in the game is Zaishen quests, and you’ll have a much better time doing the dungeon ones with heroes

Literally all you have to do to kill the Demagogue is keep killing the groups that come at you in manageable party sizes as they try to cap the shrines. Once they run out of people to cap the shrines the demagogue is left alone and no one is left contesting the shrines.

The thing is it's a nightmare to even engage the enemy team since the portal capper will keep running and ignore you anyways, so unless you have the damage to burst him in a few seconds (which will spawn a new group entirely despite the rest of the old group still being alive) you'll only be wasting your own time while the enemy team still caps. Heroes or Henchmen, you're still stuck with retards who only follow you and will unlikely do anything about the enemy capper if you plant them somewhere in the field, so unless you have a real live human bean helping you and harassing the enemy team while you cap, it's pointless to even engage with them alone.

The arguments of the people pushing Nightfall don't make sense
Even if you get your extra skill points faster, you're still going to play the same in the hard parts of the game
Even if you can stomp on mobs early, what is the fun of killing stuff that can't fight back
Even if you get heroes faster, they won't do you shit when you lack the skills (i've literally benched heroes for henchmen since i couldn't beat a hard mode map with them)

Even the guy who was pushing for heroes quick admitted that he assumed the anon is going to play like 5 alts to 20 first. How is that fast and efficient?

You get the bonus skill points in NF by doing the main quest on Noob Island. It’s impossible to miss. Prophecies characters don’t get that until after they’ve finished Crystal Desert, which takes way fucking longer, and you can absolutely miss this quest if you don’t know what you’re doing.

Ohhhh the chunkiness, but unironically.
Other than that, it's a cool mmorpg that focuses on horizontal progression in the form of acquiring skills and making your own builds to tackle different challenges.
It's pretty much a group-only game so you'll always be grouped up when progressing, but almost every piece of content was always designed for a solo player to be able to recruit prebuilt NPCs and beat the content with them.
If you make a character in Nightfall or when you eventually get there, you'll get advanced NPCs whose skills and gear you can customize, and whose positioning you can micromanage, and those will become the bread and butter of your groups for everything. Getting these advanced NPCs early is usually a good idea but not a requirement if you prefer going in blind and focusing on learning your profession first, instead of having to focus on 8 different builds all at once and metagaming it.

Prophercies was the best experience starting out

I'd understand if the guy was doing HoM shit and just wanted to get it done ASAP without playing the game. Sure you could tell him to do Nightfall first and then just stomp the underleveled mobs in the other parts with his lvl 20 heroes instead of the map level henchmen, but I'm assuming anon is actually looking to enjoy the game, so telling him to go kill green/grey mobs is a stupid idea.
