he's right you know.
people who can construct sentences and clearly explain their ideas will be better coders than autistic sperglords who can speak binary but not with their mouths.

Not really, gonna assume it was something taken out of context.
Also you being able to do something fast and without knowledge or talent does not make it good. Quite the opposite.

AI is going to be great at solving the hangups of coding. Anybody who has written code before has had that moment of "this should fucking work, why doesn't it work?"

AI won't ever write entire games. At least not games people will want to play.

There was an experiment saying that teams using AI are actually 20% slower that the ones without it but they think they're being faster.

This is the actual quote:
>"I think the more you understand what underlies these current tools, the more effective you are at taking advantage of them," Newell says of AI. "But I think we'll be in this funny situation where people who don't know how to program who use AI to scaffold their programming abilities will become more effective developers of value than people who've been programming for a decade.
>"Even if you're just a pure tool user, you're gonna find that the gains to utilizing those tools are very, very high. But I think your ability to use those tools will continue to improve the more you understand the underlying methods and mindsets of people developing machine learning systems. So I think it's both, and I think they're highly complementary."

Which makes no sense until you see it in the perspective of paying pajeets who will somehow deliver a product for much less than what you pay a senior programmer for

AI is actually really damn good at writing code if you give it all the context it needs
like, actual ungodly amounts of context. give it zero room to imagine shit and it will do what you've asked for it and write working code.

no, it won't write good code if you just prompt it "uhhh write me some netcode for my game". you actually have to understand coding yourself to give it good prompts.

Nah, it sucks. In my case, the AI always adds new problems whenever I ask about a logic error.
Still, AI is a superior search engine. I canโ€™t believe libraries or long documents donโ€™t use AI yet it could give much better references, especially since token based search engines are pretty inferior compared to AI based one
You can just ask how to do stuff in whatever like lua, how to draw window, render box, etc in less than 5 minutes. Back then something like this could take you an hours lol

>AI is going to be great at solving the hangups of coding. Anybody who has written code before has had that moment of "this should fucking work, why doesn't it work?"
this only works if you're a bad programmer and your code has a simple mistake, and you lack the knowledge of the environment you code in. The second you program anything more involved, AI will give you tons of answers its absolutely sure of, with random reasoning that sounds plausible, and you now end up with nonsense code

It will be beyond over in a couple generations unless AI massively improves and can actually be relied upon, it's too late to stop the brakes at this point.

Just like the internet has shortened certain people's attention spans and filtered them out of the market, this will do the same but more.
So if you are able to steer clear, you can take advantage by being one of the few humans who has critical thinking and problem solving abilities.

i wish i could get the dev tools for my favorite mmorpg. i could fix so many things, and easily impliment new content by just copy and pasting lots of code while maybe making a few new models myself. but they wont let us have those tools, because the industry isnt about making the perfect mmo that lasts forever, but rather pumping and dumping the player base on regular cycles so they can keep their gravy train flowing for shareholders.

ai is a toolset that opens up a lot of possibilities for people who dont want to be apart of some massive team or invest untold amounts of time trying to master every faccet of things like game production.

It really is. My first project is a copy of an early game, but multiplayer. I took 2 unity courses over 2 weeks and by the end I understood how to read and write C#. With the help of AI I learned while developing this project, lots of rewrites albeit. It can
>start a session on a Steam Relay and connect players through the Steam overlay
>drop Steam inventory items that translate to in-game UI allowing users to choose their appearance
>sends Steam inventor info and appearance preferance to server upon connection to confirm ownership and communicate their preferences to all clients
>server authoritative gameplay logic with client prediction for responsiveness and lag compensation for perceived fairness
>bot support. Though for this one, I didn't use ai at all. Just 1 whole day referencing player code to create a bot movement and bot spawn manager components
I picked up a new job last month so I haven't touched it in a while, I intend to release it after polishing to chase some income from the Steam economy. Thanks for the idea Banana
But I started this a little over 7 months ago with no coding experience, and now I am confident in my ability to make any multiplayer game I wanted. To a moderate scale, no mmos for me.

The use of the wording "more effective developers of value" is poignant.
It doesn't mean these people will be able to write better software. It just means they'll be able to churn out more half-broken slop, even faster.
