But then that might make you question why it needs to be chao, and why the fuck they decided to make an entire high effort mainline game with a plot centered around a brand new race of cute collectible potted plant creatures related to but completely distinct from the chao- and then not do anything with them, either

I think it would have to be a simplified phone game sort of like the umamusume but with more tamagotchi elements and of course the staple chao mechanics. That or a MMO with side modes and levels to grind for materials for chao, bring back the player avatars but go crazy with the customization. I don't know how you would do It any other way because making it a paid at full price is a hard sell even if it was full of good content.

Whether a potential mod for SA2 or a feature in a future SA3, the age of a chao should advance at like 0.5x the speed when you're in-game, but not in the chao garden. if there's anything a chao garden could benefit from, it's a reduced grind.

But it also could have been added to literally ANY Sonic game they have made since Adventure 2/Advance 2 and worked just as well if not even better, the fact it was in the Advance games alone demonstrates that. Chao garden is the most developed stand alone part of the Adventure games. It easily has more depth than the Speed/Treasure/Mech/Survival Horror/Kart/Fishing aspects. If they could try making stand alone speed section games, there's no reason a stand alone Chao Garden couldn't work.

Sega is a retarded company. Chao game back during the Dreamcast unironically would have saved the system. Tamagotchi was still incredibly popular during those days and a Chao game would have carried the fad for even longer since they could have tied the memory cards and their console with it as a solid 1st party offering. Compared to what you got on the competition this would have been a true game changer to the point I guarantee Nintendo would have copied the idea with Pokemon.

But Sega will always Sega and fumble the ball. Whoever runs that shit company needs to just sell it off. Preferably to Nintendo.
