i've never played WoW in my life, is this a good place to start?

It's the only good MMORPG on the market, and the most popular (10+ million players), but why are you starting anyway? It's not a good game to get into.

It depends on what you're looking for. If you just want to follow the story and do quests like a normal RPG it's good.
If you're looking for end-game PvE/PvP you might want to go with a more modern version of the game, if only for the many QoL improvements over time.

The majority of wpvpers are massive pussies that don't want a fair fight. Usually because they're trash at the game anyway. I've received many a hate tell from when me and my arena partner used to jump 70s in STV or HFP. Ironically often complaining that our full arena gear was unfair.

unfortunately Turtlewow is not really classic wow anymore, after the significant class overhauls and various quality of life / cheats that everyone uses to skip most of the content in the game. You will not be getting the actual classic wow experience.

That being said, it is an interesting and friendly mmo experience with lots of nice people and also lots of crazies to keep things interesting. It's very international and I would say 75% of the server pop is interested in coexisting, 15% are hoping for a chance to kill your character, 5% want to kill you irl, and 5% want to kill you irl and rape your corpse then eat it and wear your skin.

pvp is optional and is basically just a gank tax for extra exp

pop is dwindling and its mostly just a social game now for people to level hardcore or raidlog pve, you may find it difficult to fit into a clique or make close friends
