I’m surprised AAA gaming has lasted as long as it has. A model that requires your game to sell 10 million copies to break even or tank your company is not sustainable. And aside from the fact that these games just aren’t very good, there is also the problem of long development times exceeded 5 years and longer. Annualized franchises need to have multiple teams always working on a game at the same time and franchises that aren’t annualized can got for years without it a sequel (see GTA and TES for example). If gaming is to survive they need to bring back AA and A games and make cheaper AAA games. Indies don’t fill the gap. Neither do remasters.
