Sunshine and Odyssey are both better. I'd bet Galaxy and Galaxy 2 are as well but I haven't played them
>>715836512>>715841585>>715839908>>715839294It's got the worst movement, Mario is just not responsive: Going from a stop to a full run takes ages, as does trying to turn directions while running at high speed. His jump is also off. It feels like you're dragging Mario around more then actually controlling him. Plus he'll start walking in directions instead of just turning around half the time
Sunshine was a giant improvement, and is way more responsive with near instant acceleration and turning without being overly sensitive. Then they stupidly walked it back, with Odyssey for example being in between the two
>>715839401It's got better movement, as explained above, and it's level design takes much more advantage of actually being open 3d sandboxes: All of 64's levels are either overtly linear (like Tiktok clock), or still have almost all their meaningful platform and content along linear routes. Sunshine doesn't do this and spreads platforming geometry and shit to do across the whole 3d space
Bomb-omb battlefield and Bianco hills are a perfect illustration of this: Both are the first levels, both have a winding path through the stage that then spirals up vertical structure. But wheras Bomb-omb battlefield has basically nothing but wandering enemies and empty space outside of it's main path, Bianco has a whole village you can platform up and off of, connected by ropes and poles to a park walkwayu with similarly vertical and platforming enabling trees, and to further poles and ropes all over a lake, etc. You can go from one end of the level to the other all without touching the ground just via smart platforming.
