No shitposting, not drama, just good PS1 games.

Alright, been playing pic related. Pretty rad for a somewhat early PS1 game. The house you play in is open, where you chose your world, which is open, which contains three levels which are all open. This was very flexible for a PS1 game. The controls suffer a little from the PS1-syndrome zoomer clunkiness where the camera will get stuck on corners and will just downright refuse to go where you want in some cases.
Still, enjoyable.

It was a time where Mario was all anyone had ever heard of so every new game had to punch up to it to get noticed. It didn't work, and where Mario lived on 40 Winks faded into obscurity like so many others.

-Tank controls much like Tomb Raider
-Good soundtrack + audio effects
-Inventory management (if you don't save your items you aren't beating the game)
-Hard as nails 3d platformer
-Secret areas
-Boss battles
-Sexy female protagonist
Only thing is the graphics suck, even for a PS1 title there's tonnes of disappearing textures and draw distance issues. Framerate drops.
Oh and the camera clunkiness but that's par for the course with PS1.

This. Looking back it I think the best way to describe it is that the camera was usually in a fixed radius around the player, and you could adjust the angle and the position of the radius but never its size, so it crashed into corners and objects and all sorts of stupid shit.

It's to do with the fact that SingleTrac were the original developers of Twisted Metal but got kicked to the crub due to a dispute with Sony. Presumably, there must have been some legal concern with printing "From the REAL/ORIGINAL developers of Twisted Metal" onto the box.

The only reason why you would build a series around an IP and make sequels for it is if the game sold well, back then it was quite common for good or great games to sell poorly while trash rose to the top, usually western trash, you could say that it still happens during our days but personally all i'm seeing is endless trash regardless of region

Because the PS1 had a fairly large library, many games had small prints, many weren't really advertised much since so many people got their gaming recommendations from magazines or rental shops which typically only talked about the big names, many games weren't even localized and took literally 15+ years to even get translation patches, many games only got one game released in the west and then the others only came out in Japan or Europe (Which was and still sort of is a significantly smaller market, especially back in the day), and many devs just did one-off games without sequels in general.

Case and point (Sorry everyone for all the (You)s):
>>715872748 2 requires a translation patch, only 1 was released in the west.
>>715870873 Ace Combat 3's western version was worse than the Japanese version as it was missing a lot of content, particularly some added stuff from the Append Disc's save file.
>>715858964 Japan only and still doesn't have a translation patch.
>>715858920 Japan only.
>>715858357 Japan only and no translation patch.
>>715851691 Europe only.

I also don't know if this was just me but I knew far more people with N64s or even Dreamcasts than I did PS1s in America at least, and most of the kids around me primarily stuck to Nintendo handhelds over anything else.

I absolutely loved the sequel and played the shit out of it as a kid and thought GTA 3 was janky blocky garbage while the rest of the world was sucking it off

quite a nice game but combat gets boring fast. There is a fan translation for 1 and 2 I don't think they will do poporogue which sucks. Anyway its I recommend playing it it even has voice acting feels like a early Ni nu Kuni prototype.

My top 4 are probably Brave Fencer Musashi, Digimon World, Wild Arms 2, and Ape Escape.
