I really wish they had done more with the clothing modification system beyond just the ability to remove capes. I really love planning out outfits and playing dress up in video games.

Also are there other games with cool fashion systems that are also regular games? Terraria had a fun system, but that's just 2d pixels.

Elden Ring is an amazing game, deal with it. No amount of shilling will change that. And no, being contrarian isn't a personality.

I can say there are features I wish a game had while still enjoying it. Elden Ring has been decently fun so far, I just wish there was more you could do with armor.

World is the best Monster Hunter to start with in my opinion. Chances are, you'll like it so much that you'll want to try the others, which you'll probably end up doing. It's a large slope to get into, but a fun one. Just a warning that the games can be very overwhelming at first though. The game throws a million different systems and mechanics at you all at once, and the game itself plays nothing like a Souls-like game so you'll have to play it very differently than what you're used to, with an emphasis on understanding your weapon's complex moveset, tool mechanics, and monster behavior instead of memorizing dodge timings and whatnot. I'd recommend playing around with each weapon for around 5 or 10 minutes in the training area and then picking which one immediately resonates with you, and then looking up videos on the weapon to understand everything it can do since the game omits some of that stuff.

I threw it in my wish list I'll pick it up sometime. How does the combat compare to something like DMC? That was actually the first top down action game I ever played.
>>715861001
The funny thing is I don't do that irl. I dress like a redneck hick 90% of the time. In fact my main outfit is almost an exact match to the type of stuff my grandpa wears.

>How does the combat compare to something like DMC?
Monster Hunter plays nothing like DMC. Monster Hunter is more methodical and based on you anticipating/preparing for things, rather than reacting to them on the spot. The game will feel very slow to you if you're used to things like Elden Ring or DMC, even if you pick the fastest/most agile weapons. There's a big learning curve to it. It's not particularly difficult (at least not until the endgame or DLC), but it can be rough at the start if you're not used to this style of gameplay and design philosophy.

Slower than the Zweihander in Dark Souls 1? I'm sure I'll get the hang of it. I thought the spear was slow when I first played DS1 but I got used to the system.

It's mainly the gameplay that is slower. There's a lot of time spent waiting for things to happen, waiting for animations to finish, waiting for your character to finish recovering from things, and you overall feel weightier than in FromSoft games. The average time for a "boss fight" in this game (the time it takes to slay or capture a monster) can be anywhere from 10 to 30 minutes depending on your skill level and experience. It's a very time consuming game overall, and there is a ton of grinding/farming to get the things you need for your build, to top it off.

Lords of the Fallen has a really good dye system that Elden Ring could have learned a lot from. Well, if it hadn't come out before it, that is.

The poise breakpoints constantly remind me that armor doesn't matter....until it suddenly does. There are a lot of cool looking medium and light armor sets, but wearing them means even a light breeze will knock you out of an attack animation. Meanwhile so long as you can make it to 51, you can take at least 1 (sometimes 2) hits before being staggered. More depending on the weapon being used as well. The overall damage reduction often feels miniscule even when I can get something like physical damage resist up to or near 50%.

If I remember correctly it's something like 31, 51, and 70+. For most of PvE 51 is all you need to have enough stagger resistance to basic attacks, 70+ is more for PvP against other players.

Fashion first and build later is what I always do but honestly ER's fashion is a bit lacking. Too few sets have match colors or metal color shades. A dye fuction would be the obvious solution and you'd think they know their audience cares about fashion but Nightreign shows how out of touch they really are

nta but what there is, is what exists. If it did this or that or x, y, and z, or whatever, it might be better theoretically but that only exists in your mind.

The color of sets is more important to the lore than appeasing fashion trannies
If an armor is of different materials there's an actual story around that

Armor damage reduction is actually huge if you pull the head out of your ass and test it, and multiplied tenfold with any kind of buffs, that were since Dark Souls 3 meant to be used and people didn't
Also passive poise was a mistake and you feel compelled to hit breakpoints to clutch on that but you should not, proving once again Best Souls 3 right

Yeah but that’s kind of a cop-out, anon. Just because it exists as-is doesn’t mean you can’t critique it or imagine ways it could’ve been better. That entire mentality shuts down discussion. Like, I love ER too, I’ve put in hundreds of hours-but I’m not gonna pretend it doesn’t have jank or that the UX isn’t from 2009. A little “what if” never hurt anyone.
