people complained a lot about sky cancer similar to SPGs in WoT. they did do a lot of damage and could flip the game entirely just based on if your team got a good CV and their team got a bad CV or vice versa. if a team was smart, they'd stick together for good AA nets but why would players want to have to play a team game instead of braindead running and gunning.
they nerfed it incredibly hard to that single squadron shit rather than just disallowing manual bomb dropping/strafing or reducing damage or really anything.

i never looked up CV terms or browsed forums when i played, is this just flying in two torp squads perpendicularly so if they turn they at least eat 1 set? well sure if you're fine with just doing some damage instead of all or nothing, but it's funnier to send all torp squads in 1 direction and make them eat a shit ton of damage if they play like shit.

Nobody played them because they required too much brainpower for the community
