It was a couple of cabins in the mountains. Its nice because i always feel sleep to the sound of the near river. But there is so much that goes into it, even something basic like drinking water its a whole thing because you always need a clean water source, and while yes the river was near it was still like 10 minutes away, down the mountain. The area around it had lots of mud, so if you went to get water chances are you got dirty, and then you had to carry that water up the mountain. You couldn't carry that much water anyway because water went bad fairly quick, since at best you could store it in a jar and close it, but that still was not enough. And thats only water, i mean literally everything we take for granted in a modern setting was a mission for them, cooking had to be prepared in advance so your cooking fire was properly started and it had to be taken care of so you alway had embers. It is memories i treasure but it is not somewhete i would wanna live my life in.

you don't criminalize people, that's nonsense, you criminalize actions. Leaving children in a house without electricity is, in virtually every case, and instance of child abusive action. So that's why it's illegal.
In any event, there are no specific penal laws about electricity deprivation, the actual laws say that you can't abuse your children, and courts and law enforcement consider electricity deprivation to be a form of abuse. Because it is.

Yeah let's just forget the fact that politicians are scared to death that anyone escapes the tax cattle mill and that that money and modern conveniences like electricity keep people dependant on the system.
They're definitely not grooming children for system dependancy.
These literal sadistic pedophiles in office SURELY have these children's best interests in mind with this law.

But not every case, that's the point. And it's a good rule of thumb to always assume the government will always be happy to abuse you for the sake of your own good, so the less they have to say about your life the better
Same reason we see authoritarian shit like that pet squirrel that got euthanized cause the government decided a lack of paperwork meant they had to raid their house with a SWAT team and since, in virtually every case, being bit by a mad mammal means a possibility of rabies they killed it.

Miasmata. Absolutely loved that one. Groping around in the dark when you go too far and can't make it back before sunset. Watching sunsets from a tent on the coast. The night hike you have to do to get the algae. Going way too far but stumbling on another base but you still don't know where you ended up because you didn't add any landmarks along the way. I'd kill for a more polished modern clone. Still the coolest cartography system I've ever seen too.

It's been years since a game actually felt like an adventure and I loved it. Every single time I thought the game was getting stale it surprised me with a new mechanic.
The music and the setting was great, there is a bit of jank but nothing serious, and it doesn't hold your hand as much as modern games while not being obtuse.
On top of that I love dungeon synth and the OST is great.

The Long Dark if you don't mind it being set in winter. But don't play the shitty story mode, the sandbox allows you to craft your own story that's a lot better.

>>715874674
The feeling of traversing Fallcrush after crawling through the creepy dark mess that is Trilobite Tomb was so cool, made that whole level really enjoyable. It's impressive how the dev nailed the feeling and atmosphere of a dark fairytale, without making it a shitty horror although the mare was annoying. Shame he went AWOL and his new game doesn't seem to be going anywhere.

I wanted to add the long dark to this list but IIRC every single map is covered in snow, fine if you want a winter forest I guess. Love me a good forest.

Voices of the Void

You will hear some vitriol directed at this game, but it's largely due to external content and discussion outside the game itself. If you go into it blind, you'll have a very enjoyable experience as long as you enjoy filing reports, riding ATVs, and ambient moments that are occasionally and suddenly shattered and turn into horror.

Regardless of any controversy, it really is best to go into this game blind. It's also free.
