>fat argument
i can see my abs when i look in the mirror and chest definition (striation) when i press my hands together. not fat. the controller is too small. it makes sense when you remember this was probably designed for Japanese people first where lots of the shit they have is just smaller in general. xbox had the right approach making the S controller which was smaller while also having the duke for larger hands. ps2 should have done this in the reverse and made a larger controller for people who had adult hands.

I have large, American hands and I love my DS3. I use it to play everything I don't use KBM for.
I've used it since ~2012 and the battery still lasts several sessions before needing a charge.
Only issue I've had was the sticks beginning to grind the circle gate of the shell to dust like 2 years ago but I solved this by very carefully tying a string around the waist of the stick to remove friction and direct contact.

nta but my ex always told me i had "nice hands" that looked like they would play a piano. what she was commenting on is i dont have fat stubby fingers. the ps2 controller just doesnt have large enough handles and its a cramped design in general. if you were to hit it with a growth ray and made it even 1% larger, no one would notice the difference but everyone would like it more without knowing what happened. maybe in japan in the 2000s adults just had smaller hands or something than in many other countries. its not that bold of a statement because many westerners share those videos where they have to duck to walk under door frames and such.

what is it about the xbox "layout" that bothers you so much? the xbox original and the xbox 360 layouts are completely different. say what you will but between the DUKE the model S and the 360 controllers they made a lot of good ones and if one of those doesnt work for you then you might just be retarded if there isnt even one that you like.

You are cramming it into your palms like the Xawks controllers are designed for. Its a simpler, retard-proof approach but it leaves you with less mobility across inputs. The DS1-3 were designed to rest in the fingers and allow for ease of input. Like actually playing a piano, you don't lay your fingers flat across the surface. You arch them for maximum reach.

i would make the counterargument that if you hold a controller and you cant "figure out" the "technique" for the device meant to simply play videogames, it may be fundamentally flawed. it should be intuitive and that is me giving you the benefit of the doubt and believing there is some correct way to hold the thing.

i just remember that in any game that was fast paced my hands would cramp up and the general shape of certain areas just didnt feel good in my hand like it was a form over function issue. aesthetically its a very cool looking controller. I have a few little 3d print consoles im painting the size of like a nugget (american measurements) and im trying to figure out what color to paint my ps2 fat and ps2 slim minis.

The symmetry also aids the balance of it.
The asymmetry of others leads to an imbalanced force that causes strain over time. e.g. Up on left analog (most common input by far) causes tilt to the top left, away from centre of gravity and away from the grip, dualshock causes the same force to the centreline, close to the centre of gravity and into the grip.

your argument is flawed when you realize many of the ps2 games has you pressing on the dpad to move around despite you not pressing buttons to "counterbalance" it on the other side. think something like an adventure game where you are running around and just pressing one button to interact with things every so often.

i can play an xbox game for multiple hours and i cant do this with the ps2 controller. cant explain it, just my experience.

Idk man never struck me as unintuitive. Its especially useful in games that require a lot of inputs or finesse. Xbox and DS4 work great for shooters or simpler action-adventure games but if I want to play something like Devil May Cry or recently THPS, I go for the DS3. Much easier to be quick with it.

I find at least with the shoulder buttons, DS4 I have to crane a bit for R/L1, and the way the contours of the XBONE and later controllers aim my hand makes it a reach for the bumpers.

are you talking about the ps2 controller or the ps3 controller because ive only been talking about my experiences with the ps2 controller. I have only played the ps3 a handful of times and dont have any real impression of it/memory of it.

on the ps2 when i would play tekken or shinobi i remember my palms would just feel fatigued. im not trying to get into the theoretical ways or cases that one controller is better than the other when reaching for one button or the next because i dont doubt that each controller is better at something than another one im only saying that the general controller the ps2 had just seemed too small. just my opinion on it.

That still puts the pressure into the grip. There's usually a knuckle resting under the dpad section when it's the primary input (hooked by L2/R2 shape/casing).
The dpad is comfortable to use ont he the xbox controllers for the same reason tha analog is good on dualshock.
It's not about the balance per side (direction and button), but top/bottom and tilt away from/into grip.
Overall, the grip on a xbox controller is just too low. And it's not by much.

They are egonomically almost identical - save for the DS3's worse triggers.

Even though every controller model these days has a stick and dpad depending on which one I want to use I would rather swap controllers than try to play with whichever one isn't in the same orientation as the face buttons.

the ds2 already had weird triggers youre telling me the ds3 ones are even worse? i just figured they didnt bother with the ps2 triggers because they didnt care about FPS games but by the ps3 FPS games were super popular.

>>715876994
i have a ds2 one of the clear blue ones and the sticks are melting so you either would need to replace them or wash them multiple times to not get shit all over your hand. im sure by today there is a 3rd party option which is good enough unless you are playing something with frame inputs like tekken or something.

>>715877042
okay how do i hold it? even the n64 controller is more intuitive at this point because this is the only console ive needed to ask someone how to hold the controller.

I know they can get pricey but for some perspective, I have a DS1 from when I was a kid that I also use.
They're borderline indestuctible so even a small amount of care and they can last forever.
