How come this game doesn't have any fluid dynamics?
It's so jarring when you dig an hole next to lava and the lava just don't spread in the hole.
So much missed opportunities. It's like the destruction system is just here to... mindlessly destroy things.

Because there's no purpose to having fluid dynamics. At least no purpose that is helpful for the normal player.
Spreadable lava would lead to a lot of annoying situations where you have to force reset the terrain.

What game has fluid dynamics outside of something like Dwarf Fortress? We can't even dream of putting actual liquid physics in a real game yet.

There are similar puzzles in the game though for example sometimes you have to dig a path for small ice cubes to roll to lava to extinguish it but liquids don't work this way

this is actually quite a really difficult problem, you'd have to check for connectedness to the ground
even one connected voxel would mean the structure is standing unless you give all the voxels true mass and allow things to bend/fold/break/collapse which requires much more power to balance

and since there's floating platforms in the game, it doesn't matter too much if things float in midair

I am impressed by the size and scale of the worlds though, and the nice detail
