Beyond the basic "position units on grid and use skills to buff, debuff, and attack other grids", each character has a shove move, so the enemy is in optimal position to get slammed by your skills, or to play bumper cars because enemies deal a percent of their max hp as damage when they get shoved into another enemy. It's a fun feeling, setting up a turn full of skills only to replace them all with shoves because that would deal more damage.
As for not getting the outfits, it's supposedly fairly easy to get. I'm new, so grain of salt here, but BD2 is the kind of gacha that makes it's money on dupes, gear optimization, and pvp hell, so they don't need to fuck you on just getting units. Every rotating banner has a free daily pull, and every pull on a banner accumulates towards either pitying the rateup unit or can be converted to a resource to pull units that just finished their banners.
