It feels good to play Super Mario 3D World, it's level of challenge and control scheme is in line with the 2D games, lots of easy levels at the start, challenges in the back, and more emphasis on level design complexity (fresh mechanics constantly over the course of 96 levels instead of sandbox levels you return to) since the movement complexity is dialed back.
Your argument boils down to "Mario 3D World bad because it's 2D Mario" but 2D Mario is not bad.
