It wasn't a great game. It was very linear, the kids in it were annoying,and Zelda wasn't even part of it. It had no replay value and little to explore. Gannon's programming was so retarded that throwing a fishing pole at him was the easiest way to defeat him.

i don't like ww, i actually DO like tp it's just not one of my top picks. i'd have difficulty ranking but i can tell you at the very least that oot, mm, lttp, la, and maybe the oracle games all rank above it, and all those came out before it.

TP does a lot well but my main issues with it are the intro was too long even the first time and is unbearably long on replays and in general the game is overly linear and spaces are too small and too segmented. thematically and tonally it's great but it's also competing with other zelda games that do those great as well AND don't have the issues mentioned above.

what sales can sometimes be a good indicator of is how easily accessible a game is (that is, can you jump right into it and immediately start having fun). games that take longer to understand don't usually have the same sort of widespread appeal; it's a lot harder of an ask for someone to spend a few hours learning something when they just got out of work or school.

Honestly, with how much TP relies on aesthetics and "hype", I wouldn't have minded so much if his design wasn't so lame. If they went with something like pic related (but eased up on some of the extra hair), it'd be way better. I sincerely think this concept art design, generally speaking, feels more in line with how Link and Zelda were adapted to TP's style than his final design.

There's not a better open world game than BotW. I just wish it did more with its complex weather and temperature mechanics. TotK should have been a linear experience that made more use of these, instead of trying to compete with BotW (impossible).

The one thing I wish Zelda had was massive overarching dungeons like OG dark souls or old games like Ultima Underworld or Kings Quest had. There's something kino about spending hours in a dungeon that just goes deeper and deeper and more complex. OG Dark souls was the only game to understand why OoT was so beloved.
