I compiled a practice ROM from season 2. It's pretty neat the tweaks they made (multiplayer style fast bananaports, scrambeled worlds, incorporating banana faries into the mix). The one change thay stood out to me is lowering the banana count for banana medals, like 25 or 30 instead of 75.
That said even with my appreciation for the game I doubt I'd ever place reasonably in a real race, but I did develop some niche as fuck way to get ontop of Castle Lobby if you have Chunky, barrel pickup, and Diddy by stacking the two rocks inside one of the moat chambers and backflipping up to the roof. Niche as fuck but hey every development is awesome.

What I did was raise it to 100, make banana medals the requirement for the final boss instead of the rareware and nintendo coins, slapped kong faces on balloons, colored the kongs to match their bananas, switched some bosses around, and started the game with krusha a replacement for chunky. It feels nice to free DK in the first world, and for the boss of that world to be his.

It's the best 3d DK BY FAR, and no I'm not apologizing for that opinion.

Thats pretty cool. Also forgot how they made the score requirement for Jetpack easier too. AND bosses that any kong can do (Army Dillo, Dogadon 1, stsrting Kut Out) can be rolled as bosses.
Referencing/remembering the hints and actually running seem to be my greatest weaknesses. I forgot the optimal movement tech for running around as Lanky, poor guy gets so little love. DK is great because its just rolling around. I almost feel like there is optimization with swapping Kongs to perform the various mundane tasks like running or climbing I need to get good at, tech like that was unintended for the game but clearly needs to be mastered for best results. Do you by chance know the cleanest ways to jump across the Angry Aztec sand pits?
