It's gotten to the point where prices have ballooned over the past decade, that last-generation games are seen as being technical showcases, while current-generation games have faltered (if not polygon counts, lighting engines, and other technical prowess, but artistic wise to the point where it looks inferior), games taking longer than 5 years to develop is the norm (due to its inflated visuals, and attempting to pad out each and every game to the point where it would be a chore to do most of it, if not finish it), it is easier to remake or "remaster" old games than come up with new ones, and games being cancelled left-and-right, some of which is attributed to their inflated production costs. That may be the reason why Clare Obscur Expedition 33 sold more units than anticipated for a title that would have faded into obscurity, due to its $50 price tag, and not being inflated with too much content compared to other titles (and if that is the case, Mafia The Old Country will be a similar case next month because that game is also small, $50, and will not waste anyone's time due to its linearity, and this is assuming it's as polished as Mafia Definitive Edition).
Are video games in a state of decline, or is it too big to crash again, despite it worsening over the past decade?
To be honest, just I want and demand another crash. That is the only way to fix the whole industry, instead of the rot that permeates everything regarding this.
