It's gotten to the point where prices have ballooned over the past decade, that last-generation games are seen as being technical showcases, while current-generation games have faltered (if not polygon counts, lighting engines, and other technical prowess, but artistic wise to the point where it looks inferior), games taking longer than 5 years to develop is the norm (due to its inflated visuals, and attempting to pad out each and every game to the point where it would be a chore to do most of it, if not finish it), it is easier to remake or "remaster" old games than come up with new ones, and games being cancelled left-and-right, some of which is attributed to their inflated production costs. That may be the reason why Clare Obscur Expedition 33 sold more units than anticipated for a title that would have faded into obscurity, due to its $50 price tag, and not being inflated with too much content compared to other titles (and if that is the case, Mafia The Old Country will be a similar case next month because that game is also small, $50, and will not waste anyone's time due to its linearity, and this is assuming it's as polished as Mafia Definitive Edition).

Are video games in a state of decline, or is it too big to crash again, despite it worsening over the past decade?

To be honest, just I want and demand another crash. That is the only way to fix the whole industry, instead of the rot that permeates everything regarding this.

It will crash again for sure, this is a lesson they will never learn, won't be the last crash.

Do you suggest there be a gaming "Big Crunch"? That all games from now on would intentionally become more visually and technically inferior, until they resemble the "games" from the Magnavox Odyssey in some 50 years, before disappearing altogether (unless if the cycle starts again)?

You may as well expect the music or movie industry to crash. It's too culturally significant to crash in the way it did in the 80s

There has never been a video game industry crash and there never will be
Individual companies do well or do poorly
Stop obsessing over this concept

I think so. All the modern shit is flopping, all these multi-million UE5 projects that come out every month are invinsible and everyones just playing fortnite and cod. Why the hell would they buy UE5 slop that all looks the same? Many people can't even tell these games apart.

I mean, it's so similar, even high profile games from reputable companies (as everyone and their mother knew that Donkey Kong Bananza was made by the same exact development team as Super Mario Odyssey, long before it was officially confirmed to do so, but also taking mechanics to the point where even HUD elements are effected by Legend of Zelda Breath of the Wild and Tears of the Kingdom (where the opening shot to Lagoon Layer is more or less copied directly from that game).
