I'm thinking this is maybe a world where Rufus has gone insane and has grown to become a greater threat than even Jenova somehow. Sephiroth is just an ugly memory here. I never liked the idea of Rufus just washing away his sins and becoming an ally. He has far greater potential in the after years.
