Spoiler: I don't actually want to save GaaS and live service games like Anthem. I want to make the predatory business models as unsustainable as possible and force publishers to go back to making actual video games instead of feasting on the weak-willed, or at the very least to expose them for what they are.

The elephant in the room is that a lot of people are already skeptical of any live service game to begin with.

So most of the time, it's not just some sudden rug-pull no one expected but instead games that never reached their potential anyway dying a slow death until the few people who did live it then lose their game they paid for.

So it really doesn't benefit either camp.
If you don't like live service games, you miss out on what would otherwise be a perfectly good game.
If you don't care, you end up enjoying a game that eventually disappears for you.

Nobody gives a shit about GaaS, but I would like some basic accountability. It costs next to nothing to release the server binaries and instructions on how to use them, and ensures the game will be playable for eternity, the only reason you wouldn't do it is because you're a scumbag and you don't "have" to.

The reality is that any ruling wouldn't do anything to their bottom line, they'd still be pumping out failed products, but they'd at least have to host a download for every abortion.

While it does suck noodles, it's dying (i.e. being rendered completely unplayable even for those who bought it) because Bioware/EA chose to murder it. It would be one thing if it was still playable via offline modes and/or user-hosted servers, but that's not what's happening here.
Now, future generations will be unable to truly understand how shitty it was. All lessons that could be learned from it will be lost to time, along with any hope of some crazy autist finding a way to code custom patches that make the game actually fun somehow.

Anthem made horrible mistakes:
Anthem was left with a skeleton crew almost immediately after launch. It released before the game was finished and subjected players to a horribly barren experience, causing popularity to plummet almost instantly
They also put it in some stupid EA game pass thing, so literally nobody bought the actual game.
Then you had things like the following
>no fun "legendary" drops, no reason to keep playing after campaign
>no proper endgame content at launch
Even for a lootershooter, Anthem was FAR below something like Destiny or warframe, plus the enemy scaling was retarded, higher difficulty experience was dying in 1 seconds if you peeked outside of cover (AND ANTHEM WAS NOT SUPPOSED TO BE A COVERSHOOTER)

Here's some more things it did wrong:
>campaign was short, and the story had no proper conclusion
>EA was one of the earliest DEI & woke pushers
>Environments were basically only the jungle and caves
>insane cash shop for a paid title

The few things Anthem got right:
>You can really feel the weight difference in the animations, sounds and design of each class, and the flying was cool
>Some abilities were fancy

You literally cannot blame "gamers" for the failure of Anthem
Even with the best financial support it could have gotten, Bioware wouldn't have changed the downright insane design choices, lack of coordination and, most importantly, being EA's property.

For me, it'll always be Joshua Nigbuu inventing a new computer in some local news puff piece for the BBC, though.

Braindead argument. People were celebrating that the games failed financially, not that they were permanently unplayable after they bombed and their servers got taken offline.
