not really it's essentially one of those sequels thats a middle finger to its fanbase telling them to get over liking the franchise

It's decent. The first half of the game when you get used to the artstyle feels like classic Monkey Island. One of the problems is the voice acting. You'll have a bunch of good returning VAs and some new ones that fit right in, and then someone who is clearly just a no talent black woman who sticks out. The ending is also awful and clearly rushed. You'll never know you're doing the final puzzle because the game suddenly runs out of money and ambushes you with the worst ending of all time

Here's what I think happened:

After years and years and YEARS of Ron Gilbert publicly bragging that HIS MI3 ('MI3A') would be way different and more definitive and true to the spirit of the original MIs than the one we got, one of 3 things happened:

1) he blew his creative load prematurely and recycled the meta-textual artificial world fuckery ending he was going to use for MI3A for Thimbleweed Park (which was also shit)

2) After obtaining the rights for MI, the suits at Disney told him that his plans for an 'MI3A' were a no-go as MI3-5 were still being sold digitally and hence their stories were still technically 'canon', thus greatly disrupting his original plans

3) A combination of 1) and 2)

Ron's too much of a petty, arrogant, spiteful two-faced dipshit that he'd never admit the truth and just gladly lie to your face that there were never any plans for a 'true' MI3 and blame the audience for not liking it or not buying his shitty excuses.

He should have stopped by this point then. Why did Ron think anyone would care about a terrible Monkey Island game with terrible graphics and an ending even worse then MI2's? Everyone was only interested in MI3A and my interpretation is that his team realized their game couldn't hold water to MI3 in any shape or form so they bailed by making a sequel even worse than Tales of Monkey Island.

I dont follow devs that much but people seemed to be upsrt when Gilbert left LucasArts. But they continued toake quality products while he disappeared until this badly made game.

Maybe Schafer was the real talent all along?
