Gyakuten Kenji 2 got a fan translation shortly after release and the general opinion is that it's one of the best games in the series (I did not play neither GK games, so I can't comments on it myself)

It got a fan translation years after release, during which people were insufferably proclaiming it was the best in the series and if only people would play it they'd know. And once the fan translation did eventually come out, opinions cooled considerably, and most think it's got a great ending and pretty passable everything else.

That was solidly confirmed when it was officially ported last year.

He didn't mention however how much the studio self sabotaged themselves with Park Patrol. I loved the original and finished Park Patrol. Park Patrol was much better than you would think from the first hours but it was still vastly inferior to the first game.

Going from Chibi Robo GC to Park Patrol was an absurd mistake. To this day I didn't play the second DS game because I just don't really care anymore about Chibi Robo after Park Patrol.

I don't get the Park Patrol hate honestly. It's a really fun and addictive game. It doesn't have the incredible story or scale of the original, but it's a DS game so I think it can be forgiven for that. It'd be like saying Mario Land 2 killed the series because it wasn't like Mario 64.

But Anon if you haven't played Clean Sweep you're missing out. It's bigger than the original game and fixes all of its issues.

It's not hate, it's just a vastly inferior game to the first and keeping up the park feels like a legitimate chore and not like cute little micro tasks like in the original. The DS games are also not side games like Mario Land, they are the main series. People will feel disappointed no matter what to go from a GC game to a DS game. The DS is roughly a portable N64.

Also the first hours of Park Patrol are atrocious. You go from a big comfy house with the Toy Story atmosphere to literally just a green empty field.

This was a good game and Nintendo shot themselves in the foot with this series in general, but Clean Sweep was still a big step down from the original just by being forced to be on a handheld console. The game world for its formula just does not feel BIG enough when you do that.
