hosting a master server or providing the means to do so costs basically nothing if your game already has an integrated server browser. but the issue is if that if your game doesn't really *use* a server browser like elden ring or whatever, then having to find a way to integrate one or work around it is kinda cringe
i think the movement is kinda retarded because it's essentially just populist catharsis that has no real basis in reality except a general "live service model greed really needs to die asap", which is a sentiment i can agree with but ultimately i don't think you can really force anyone to do anything. even if they legislate some shit like you can get a full refund for content you can no longer access, companies are going to find a way to get around that or package all content as free while adding anti-consumer fees to everything else. like yes your new COD game will be free but you have to pay for the CODPass (20 dollars a month + tip) to reload your gun or whatever
