I've heard about savescumming but I genuinely don't remember any game where I've ever used it.
In which game is savescumming useful?

Age of Empires 2, when a campaign AI suddenly decides to betray you and fuck up your shit. Reload save and go build a fucking castle in the middle of his town, that'll learn him

In every game where where there is potential to fuck one of the NPCs. The amount of times I reloaded saves to sleep with Shadowheart and Karlach on my first playthrough

Funger and Funger 2. I give myself Books of Enlightement although it's not particularly to save scum difficult encounters, it's just to save more regularly without backtracking a lot.

Tomb Raider 1, by the end of the game they definitely expected it of you because so much of the levels becomes instant death pits obscured by bad camera angles, blind corners into monsters that can quickly maim you and patforming challenges where minor mistakes make you redo 5 minutes of climbing. The extra levels even has this fucked up checkers board where each panel drops arbitrary instant death boulders so god help you if you don't want to just save every time you take a safe step.
Still a fun game though, would recommend

savescumming provides the ability to have a do-over so mistakes aren't permanent
where would that not be useful

Any game where RNG matters more than strategy
aka Fire Emblem

This poster is mostly right but chose the absolute worst example since Fire Emblem uses seeded RNG. A better example would be D&D games like Baldur's Gate or Icewind Dale.

Every game where there are consequences for your actions and you don't play them out and immediately load a file, or you have/create a file before you take an action/fight a battle and you decide it didn't out how you wanted and you just reload to get the perfect result.

I guarantee you are one of those faggots considering how oblivious you are to it like a coping mechanism.

Any game where you are hunting for specific modifiers on gear. Recently playing through the new Fantasy Life game I've had to save scum a ton to get the right modifiers on equipment.

You know you can just use redux stones and remake it over and over again, and you can get those stones very quickly by buying a bunch of long capes to sell to the vendor on the other side of the city

Very useful in CRPG games where the main character's death means game over.

Only few FE games let you reload without restarting the whole mission anyway, unless the previous guy meant savestates but like the great Mike Matei once said: you didn't beat the game.
