Which company would be the best fit for developing a new Gantz gameโ€”FromSoftware, Bandai Namco, or another studio? Should the game stick to the original manga storyline or create a self-contained narrative with mechanics better suited for gaming? Letโ€™s explore some ideas!

A game shouldn't really follow the main story arc at all and should instead take place in an entirely separate part of the world doing it's own thing. It's a better opportunity than trying to recreate the show or the main narrative stuff.

It could already be a game in the style of X-Com 2. It already has future sci-fi shit, timers and variety of enemies to hunt and even melee class that plays a lot as if you had the X-Shotgun and the blade on you where you have a team of people you control and team you don't control in each battle. They just need to rework the damage and armor shit to be inline with the Gantz suit. Basically from XCOM EW you would have the Thinman leg upgrade and the Ghost armor.

all deaths were final, the revives were just copies with same memories
even when you only got injured during the mission, gantz just erased you and created a copy of before you got hurt
by the end the main cast were copies of copies

No, the moment you enter that room when summoned, that's the copy you revive. It always saves that copy and updates the database in a way, in a way you are "real" if you get the 100 points and leave the fuck out of the game but then again.

Gantz has canon souls, the copy question doesn't matter. You have a divine body-housed soul that stays no matter what happens with cloning or copying or whatever and leaves for parts unknown after death.

> Have more lethal enemies on the map that tear through people left and right and you are like oh shit got to do something.
> Your mission timer is 60 turns (each minute is one turn.)
> The combat will be based on that time scaling much like a tabletop RPG would be.
> Action takes place after inputting orders so you can't plan everything out.
It would still be tense if it opts to give you a chance to date some of the female characters as Kei if you manage to save them unlike in the Manga. Keeping your favorite pussy alive is a strong drive for tension.

It sounds silly, but could a Persona-like game work? After each mission, the player goes to school, but when the summoning happens, the gameplay shifts to something more like Ninja Gaiden or Resident Evil 4 gunplay.

If the point of all of this was to secretly combat an impending alien invasion, why do you not explain that to people? Why do you suck in people who are obviously not made for violence? Why are you so stingy with equipment? Why do you not explain how the equipment works? Why do you not revive all people who can actually fight?

That would imply the afterlife is full of like a hundred of all the characters, or that the gantz balls can be used to min-max reincarnation.

The god aliens say that the two characters only have one direct next reincarnation, so there can't be more than one anyway.

There were certainly things in the series that he went on the spot like, hey, what about this, what about that. (Vampires/Psychics) and toyed with the ideas and just stuck to the basic formula of human struggle against the impossible odds finally sticking to it although lore wise Psychics are canon even in Edo period.

I do agree that turn based would probably be the only viable thing for having each squad member controllable and therefore important, I don't think AI companions running around would make you care as much
You could make it multiplayer but it always takes away from immersion

Also you should read at least to the Buddha Statue arc completely before speaking on Gantz at all, most of the ground work gets explained up to that point then couple missions in from that you get the bigger picture of sorts. It really is easy to tell those who haven't read the series at all by these plot beats that happen there for example:
> Some military guy who starts practice shooting to test out weapon ranges.
> Some martial artist tough guy who's strong enough to bust through Kei's suit if he didn't activate it.
They weren't all incompetent its just fucking lethal and resources are limited situation. Getting 100 points takes like 5-10 missions the very least and the 100 pointer aliens are just fucking raw godzilla tier monsters.

The mangaka finishes with a half-assed excuse, the aliens are immigrants gaijins that slowly replace the population/take over the world, the aliens that made Gantz started to send signals randomly to other words so the natives could fight them just for pettiness as they got over being expelled/decimated out of their home planet long go, then something about culturally appropriating the part of buddhism that the mangaka loves "doesn't matter who lives or dies, everyone will get recycled in the end" or something then the aliens start to clone dead characters out of nowhere to kill them then say that those clones will reincarnate later on

Yeah, he had great ideas poorly executed though, but he certainly wasn't fond of religions or buddhism in general he constantly mocked religious characters by having them die and have their "belief in god" shattered through current situation killing them for being faithful rather than atheistic pragmatic like Oda Nobunaga instead on the battlefield and discarding traditions for everything to survive a battle. He just thought it would be a funny way to probably piss off even the buddhists and hindus and whatever else that believed in Reincarnation although it wasn't received in that way as more of a shoehorned bad writing. He was really the sort of a mangaka that needed a solid editor to help retard wrangle his great ideas. Osaka arc was peak.

Yeah, Gantz The Game 2005. Brawler sort of like Yakuza type game or DMC mix in between, allows you to date characters and unlock alt-reality scenes where they get together (female ones only unless I remember wrong), allows you to unlock the Bike too and ride around the mission, you have guns, pistols and the sword as your weapon and yes you have to go fisticuffs with the robot to damage him.

It's generally poor form in writing to introduce a faction or concept and then have them just leave when you run out of ideas for them.

The sense part is more that the whole thing is clearly just events leading to other events with no real structure. Things happen because something has to happen, and then if it gets boring it stops and something else happens instead. It's like advanced mystery box writing.

It was kino before zoomers were able to speak and were in their diapers before they could play shartnite. It was just balls to the walls crazy gonzo sci-fi action shit. "So bad its good again." type of stuff, its a taste only someone who has been raised on old movies (pre 2000s) could appreciate. It nails down that action horror of C/B tier movies from those decades well.

idk what more could have been done with the vampires desu they weren't major players, it's true that a lot of things got tossed aside but they did always have at least a quick explanation
It definitely was thrills over depth but i don't see anything wrong with that, it was made to be just that as opposed to a complex seinen
The life/hunt structure was a solid backdrop and the protags development were good enough to carry it without super organic drama
