Has anyone got an idea when the 8BitDo Ultimate 3 will be released?

A month ago I bought myself the Switch 2 Pro 2 Controller (or whatever it's called), and my first impressions during first days were that it's absolutely fantastic, new new plastic is better, feels better and doesn't become greasy like the old Pro Controller from Switch 1 did. But after 2-3 weeks of usage, I started getting shoulder pain, and I don't know if it's from my chair (docked mode playing), or from playing handheld on sofa, but I was starting to think it may have come from playing with the new Pro 2 controller, so I switched to back to playing with Deltaco's Mini controller (a controller I bought shortly before release of Switch 2, I thought I'd let my friends use this small cheap controller on Switch 1, while I hog the Pro 1 controller, but having noticed how sticky/greasy the pro controller had become from poor storage or reaction to some other plastics in a bag, the deltaco mini became my go-to controller for Switch 1 gaming) in hopes that its lightweight would make the shoulder pain go away. Well it's hard to say if it was the controller alone, because I've also unintentionally stopped sofa gaming as well (handheld while laying on a sofa, without any ergo grips), but the shoulder pains are mostly gone.

It was like couple of days or so after going through this, that I noticed some youtuber hade made a video, pointing out that the more extreme angles that the grips of Pro 2 controller has, causes discomfort, and that youtuber in question made claim that he got injured by this new controller, because of how unergonomic it is https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=B91WhedKOyU

So now I'm naturally curious about 8BitDo controllers, or other third party controllers. I'm in a look out for a controller that has similar plastic that Pro 2 controller has, since that's the most comfortable thing about Pro 2 for me, that it doesn't attract icky/greasy feel to it (weird that Pro 1 does, because I never operate tech/electronical devices with greasy hands). I want to buy Ultimate 2 just because, but if Ultimate 3 is just around corner, I'd rather wait for that. But if Ultimate 2 doesn't have right plastic, then I'd like someone who's held Pro 2 controller point me to a third party controller that has same/similar plastic that Pro 2 has. I saw some new 8BitDo controller have the feature of detaching the axby and reordering them (since they're attached with magnets), I'm assuming the Ultimate 2 didn't have this feature, but the Ultimate 3 might have. I think the thing going for Switch Pro 2 is that you can re-arrange the extra buttons on software level, but I use that feature very rarely personally, and I don't wanna develop any carpal tunnel or shoulder problems, so I'd rather not touch Pro 2 controller if there's any risk involved with it.

The stick glides and are silent. The abxy buttons are sharper / easier to find, and - and + buttons come upwards more and are also more easier to find. The d-pad is said to be ever so slightly better, but nothing phenomenal. For me it's the plastic itself, it has anti-grease feel to it, it doesn't get icky and stuff. If it weren't for the more aggressive angles that pro 2 has, I'd probably use it more often, because I've recently returned to Pro 1 (since it has better gyro than deltaco mini, which does have gyro but not nearly as good as pro 1), and Pro 1 if my hands are at all sweaty the controller feels weird, while the plastic on Pro 2 is "your hands sweaty? not a problem" because nothing sticks to that plastic.

Ultimate 2's shell has a similar overall form factor to a Switch 1 Pro, so tiny hands guy in the OP would be fine with it. However, the Ultimate's face buttons and shoulder buttons are smaller, more xbox-like, and the angle at which the sides/grips flare out are a little slimmer/square on the Ultimate (not really enough to make a difference).
My hands are huge so personally I wasn't too fond of it despite using an Ultimate for 2+ years. Nintendo and Xbox layouts feel cramped to me.

if you don't care about latency (still better than switch procon2) you can get the bluetooth version which i'm pretty sure works with gyro on pc

Yea it's the pro 3 that made me curious if the release of Ultimate 3 might happen this year, too, but just because Pro 3 is coming, it might not mean Ultimate 3 is near. What matters to me also is the surface plastic, if the controller doesn't have same kind of plastic that Procon 2 has, I'm not sure if I'd use 8BitDo controller, even if it's good. I've come to notice that having good plastic is important for me

Not to the point it will put a company out of business. And if it supposedly ever gets to that point, then the country enforcing the tariffs will have to back off just like how America did when China threatened to halt all mineral shipments.

A few years ago I bought an SN30 Pro 2
The d-pad gave me false diagonals and the gyro worked like absolute shit with it bugging out and being overall pretty laggy compared to the dualsense. I couldn't use my original SNES contact pads either like I did with the Pro +
I don't like the place where the d-pad is, but at the very least, have they improved some of these things with these ultimate controllers?
I know that there's at least differences between their M30 revisions, since I have an original M30 and an Xbox version, and what's supposed to be the same about them is definitely slightly different (now the ball bearing mod doesn't work on the newer one).

Five gorillion extra buttons when every single modern game designed without them in mind, let alone none of the old games need them? Fucking ball-tops? No, I tried updating firmware, factory reset, re calibration, changing modes.
It seems like the switch is broke. If I press and hold, it wont stay pressed. If i press it a lot, like every other click registers. The only way to fix it would be opening it up and soldering a new switch on it, which I dont have the equipment or skill to do.
I am saddened because I like the controller otherwise. Especially with the two front buttons mapped to LS click and RS click was really nice for RAIDOU. I hate pressing LS and RS.
I want to just buy another one, but don't want to reward a company for shitty manufacturing.

I held my switch 2 controller and my hands dwarf his. I have average medium sized palms and slightly short fingers, so this guy has legitimate baby hands. Don't take too much stock in what he says if you aren't a manlet like him. I played through Stellar Blade and Lies of P back to back on the ultimate 2, and those are parry heavy action games. No discomfort or cramps, but it's worth mentioning that unlike with xbox controllers, the Ultimate 2's bumpers don't wrap around the sides, so they're not as easy to press with the hook of your index fingers while they're resting on the triggers. If you play games that make heavy use of the shoulder buttons, then it'll take some adjustment using index and middle finger as opposed to just index.

The ultimate 2 wireless (for pc) had steam d-input patched in, which means you can have analog triggers and gyro at the same time. Also you can remap the extra buttons to anything on the keyboard through steam, which means you can map all 7 skills in Mass Effect 3, a game which arbitrarily locks you down to 3 when using a controller

I can't speak for past 8bitdo controllers like the 2c or 2.4ghz (fucking retarded naming scheme) but 632146 is totally doable on the Ultimate 2 Wireless. My main complaint is it's not a symmetrical controller for d-pad heavy games, and if I'd known that 8bitdo would drop the Pro 3 four months later, then I probably would have waited for it instead.

>nta but what are the pros and cons of having symmetrical controller like your picrel?
Just the shape, really. 2d games are more comfortable to play when you have the dpad on the left side as the primary movement input in my opinion. As far as I can tell the 8bitdo Pro 3 and Ultimate 2 (wireless) have feature parity, but the Pro 3 has the QoL feature of the toggle on the back having dedicated D-input and Switch input, so there's no worry of the controller turning off before you dock it and having to wake it while holding home + y for switch mode or home + b (D-input) for steam like on the Ultimate 2. Avoid the 8bitdo Ultimate 2 Bluetooth version for switch, it's a cut down dogshit version of the PC ultimate 2 that is sold at a premium for tendies. It has worse polling rate and compatibility than the Pro 3 or Ultimate 2 (for PC).

>Would Ultimate 3 have any features that would make it better than Pro 3?
Not really, unless 8bitdo add touch sensitive sticks like on the Steam Deck or Steam Horipad.

Download the Ultimate 2 software for PC and upgrade the firmware on the controller and the dongle. They patched in D input and Switch input. You just have to do a macro from sleep. It's hold Home + b for d-input (Analog triggers + Gyro on PC) or Home + y for s-input (Switch). Keep in mind that you should be using the dongle for the 1000 hz polling rate, because bluetooth mode is just 125 hz.

Any idea how it works on Linux? I had a King Kong 2 that worked great on linux, but it broke, so I got a King Kong 3 and it had numerous issues with linux.

This is my guess, but you might need to buy some adapter or something (maybe adapter 2 to be safe), unless they decide to release firmware upgrade to make ultimate 1 switch 2 compatible. I'd ask their support through chat or email. What I've noticed is Switch Pro 1 can't seem to be able to wake up Switch 2 from sleep, so if that feature is important (you don't have switch 2's dock at your arm's length), then Switch Pro 2 controller might be the way to go. I only have pro 1, pro 2 and deltaco mini controllers, but I might be looking into some third party controller if I find something nice

>china has 1,5 billion fucking people
Yeah, and they get paid pennies to work in sweatshops because going full automation would put 90% of china's work force out of work, and that would destroy their country with revolution. This is also why China cannot survive a prolonged tariff war, if people stop buying their shit, then in the short term Chinese factories wind down production and people can't earn money to survive.
>europe has twice the amount of people US does you fucking retard get real
Twice the population and the GDP is barely higher. This means that aside from affluent and productive countries like Germany that are propping up the whole EU, you have a bunch of poorfag countries like Greece or the baltics where people don't have as much disposable income to buy shit on a whim.

>is this really what americans believe? you know your government spends billions on anti china propaganda?
Chinese exports are cheaper because Chinese workers get paid less than their western equivalents for the same amount of labor, and this is an indisputable fact.
>yeah that's why trump cucked out
He really didn't, the tarrifs are at like +55% compared to the +30% that were already in place since his first term. This is how Trump operates, he shocks everyone with absurdly high demands and then scales back to something more digestible compared to the extreme. The markets are actually doing well despite his tariff threats because people have cottoned on to his extreme style of haggling and trust he will always scale back so that the US get's a little bigger slice of the pie, but not enough to kill trade entirely.
>what? half of US' GDP is made by 1% of the population are you fucking retarded?
And the other half is made by half the population of the EU, however even the poorest US states have more disposable income because they aren't taxed to shit.

>Chinese exports are cheaper because Chinese workers get paid less than their western equivalents for the same amount of labor, and this is an indisputable fact.
partially, chinese exports are cheap because making shit in china is cheap, wages are part of the equation, another one is cheap yuan while US dollar is one of the strongest currencies
the thing is that 8bitdo sells $15 and $50 controllers that are definitely cheaper in china which anyone can afford. China is really not that poor at all and it has larger middle class than any country on earth
>He really didn't, the tarrifs are at like +55% compared to the +30% that were already in place since his first term
he cucked out of electronics tariff and gpu embargo and you're fucking retarded if you genuinely think that was the plan
>US get's a little bigger slice of the pie
that's really wishful thinking
tariffs don't work because it's just moved to vietnam and sent from there and they know and can't do shit about it
>however even the poorest US states have more disposable income because they aren't taxed to shit.
>shows gdp
>for a $15/$40 controller (probably half the price in china)

I've had an SN30 Pro since 2018, have put thousands of hours on it.

I hate it and wish it would break so I could justify getting a new controller.

They tend to use pivots that are too small (perpendicular directions easy to accidentally press and sometimes hard to release), some old revisions have a worse PCB for it, and frequently you get a QC failing on top like the d-pad biasing in a certain direction. Ultimate 2, Ultimate 2C, and Pro 3 have tactile d-pads so the higher actuation force helps mask or outright eliminates these flaws. My N30 Pro 2 (old PCB) and SN30 Pro+ (new PCB, biased towards up) were outright unusable for fighting games. SN30 Pro (new PCB) is usable but sloppy enough on diagonals that I'd still rather not.

>Ultimate 2, Ultimate 2C, and Pro 3 have tactile d-pads so the higher actuation force helps mask or outright eliminates these flaws.
I figured as much. I never get unwanted diagonals on the Ultimate 2 when I press a cardinal, regardless of whether I press down dead center or on the corner of the direction I want. I have to consciously press a little harder in the diagonal direction to feel the second "click" from the adjacent input and trigger a diagonal. Overall It's a good d-pad, Perfect for menu navigation and good for 2d platformers, but ideally you'd want a more d-pad centric controller like the Pro 3 for those kinds of games.

To be clear: for some fucking reason there are two versions of the 8bitdo Ultimate 2 with bluetooth. One has xbox colored face buttons and the modes are 2.4ghz with included dongle or bluetooth dinput. The other version has white text face buttons with Switch layout, this version has Switch mode bluetooth.

However, if you use the 8bitdo adapter 2 (the black one), the non-switch version can work on a Switch, so not a big deal.

sweet, that's good to hear, I ordered it without doing extensive research, the main things I was looking for: Hall effect joysticks, the hall effect triggers would have been nice too...but whatever, linux compatibility, and that's it really. Wireless/BT is just a nice to have too, never had a wireless gamepad. Last thing I got was a wired xbox controller from ebay and I had to replace some of the dirty pots on the triggers I think, but I recently (a few months ago really) took it out and a button wasn't working so I've been thinking about getting a new one. Looking forward to trying Pull Stay again
