Why do JRPGs all have that one "main" character who contributes absolutely nothing to the story? You could remove them entirely and would change in any meaningful way, they're just there.

The only main character is the male protagonist self insert. I don't consider side characters, main characters.

If they're in the party, they're a main character.

And Rex isn't a self-insert, he has his own personality and opinions
