i was just thinking of making a thread like this because i started playing picrel. i wouldnt call onimusha lesser known though.

anyway shadow is rome is pretty cool, despite the stealth sections dragging the pace a bit too much. its crazy it never had a followup or true spiritual sequel, and instead just turned it into dead rising which made the combat infinitely worse.

I know the first game had some wacky stuff in it but it feels like they went a little too far with that stuff in the sequels imo

This is a pretty good Onimusha-like with a parry/counter system. It's short and sweet, doesnt overstay its welcome. theres a decent budget there, it feels almost like capcom devs made it. The game kind of leans on its parry gimmick kind of like Sekiro. I honestly prefer it over Onimusha 2 and 3

Also this game is as close to Onimusha 1 or DMC1 you are going to get. It's absolutely wonderful, this is another game that feels very capcom. Just a great hack and slash adventure with great combat in really weird and kind of unexplained locations similar to DMC1, practically zero story, just gets straight to the gameplay.

This game is also great, unfortunately it's pretty fucking long. It's a lot more Jank than Onimusha but theres something absolutely soulful and great about this game I cant put my finger on. The combat feels stiff at first but you kind of find ways to get good at it and it starts to feel great. The enemy design is amazing and some of the levels are really cool looking. The true final boss requires you to find and kill all the secret bosses and the true final boss is fucking insanely difficult
