How come there haven't been any Mass Effect clones yet? It's been a over a decade since the the third game and only now a couple of them are being made.

Because there was nothing unique about Mass Effect.

I wonder this about Skyrim every day. Game of the decade, 14 fucking years. Squat!

publishers would never go for it
it's too campy
look at how ea's suggestions made 3 like a generic netflix show
they don't like things like mass effect

To be fair, Mass Effect is really a Baldurs Gate/Knights of the Old Republic clone and there's still plenty of those kinds of games coming out, just none that are really sci-fi oriented.

Knights of the Old Republic and its sequel will probably feel the most similar to ME, but the combat isn't as active, I think it was based on D&D 3rd Ed. They will look and feel very old these days, but they're solid games with great party interactions.

Neverwinter Nights 2 just got a remaster that's supposed to be very good as well, but that's more D&D. Sticking with D&D, Baldurs Gate 3 is the obvious choice if you want something modern, but I imagine you've played that already.

I don't know if we'll ever get another space opera that even comes close to the sheer scope and quality that Mass Effect had. I know we have that Expanse game coming up and there is that other game with Matthew Mcconaughey, Exodus https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=PGA6d5m_foE both of them could be good.

I really should try KotOR, everyone raves about it, thanks.
If I hated Icewind Dale and Diablo you think Never winter nights is still worth checking out?

Im 80% done 1 and just can't finish it, zero intrest. 2 was amazing though. Good sugestion.

Diablo is a totally different kind of game so don't worry about that. And it depends on what you hated about Icewind Dale. It was based on the older, 2nd ed rules for D&D which can be a little obtuse if you're not familiar with them. NWN2 will feel a bit more like the Pathfinder games you've been playing though since PF is a spinoff of D&D 3rd ed in terms of its game mechanics, just remember that it's almost 20 years old at this point

Dragon Age sorta does this too
But they’re from the same company so ig it doesn’t count

Wasn't the rules it was the combat. Icewind Dale felt like the bastard child of Diablo and Baldurs gate. Just hordes of enemies 5x anything seen in BG1 or 2.

the series died at the release of 3 hard. It never recovered and the shitshow of the bought reviews ushered in the first gamergate.

Just replay the first 2 and be happy they exist.

Ah, yeah it's been a long time since I played NWN2 but I don't remember combat being particularly overwhelming with the amount of enemies or anything.

Ultimately though, if you're looking for Mass Effect vibes, KOTOR 1/2 are gonna be your best bet. Just remember that they're old as hell and no longer considered Star Wars canon and you should have a good time. I'm also kinda surprised no other anon has said to try Jade Empire, which is also supposed to be fantastic, but it never grabbed my interest.

It was schizophrenic, the actual first sequel barely acknowledged anything then the third game acknowledged a lot then the fourth said fuck you I'm a tranny game.
