A lot of Dragon's Dogma story comes off as something someone came up with but no real thought or effort was actually put into it.

>sacrifice the love of your life because you're too much of a bitch to face a dragon
>become a duke in exchange, but all your neighbors see you as an upstart and hate you
>arrange a marriage with a hot young thing, score
>she's actually a shameless harlot
>dragon comes back, oh fuck
>every neighbouring nation tries to sabotage you, oh shit
>your wife immediately opens her legs for the new arisen
>big tiddy merchant girl comes to town but you're married so you can't openly throw money at her to fuck her
>your cool ring gets stolen, arisen retrieves it and gives you a fake so he can rob you
>also makes you age like crazy by killing the dragon and then comes back to bully you
Life is hard for the Duke, his only joy in life are Feste's jokes

I think it had more thought put into it than it's given credit for. Brevity is the soul of wit, and Dragon's Dogma doesn't waste your time. It poses a concept at the beginning, and answers it in its finale, with gameplay no less, rather than a cutscene.
>The delightful and ever-novel pleasure of a useless occupation
Genuinely a great portrayal of this quote in its gameplay and ending. Playing God is boring as shit, which is why (You) kill yourself so you can play the adventure again in NG+.

I disagree, I think the story would be decent, but like half of it is missing, probably due to production issues.

Based humanist

Still, though— him suffering so much is pretty appropriate considering the shameless and cowardly paths he routinely took. Proves that justice is alive and well in the world of DD and that opportunists get what they deserve.

I mean as far as I know the only cowardly path he took was sacrificing his waifu. He seemed like a decent enough ruler outside of that.

The story in the 2nd game sucks so hard compared to the ludo in the first game

Why didn't they bring this character back in DD2? It could be a population crisis mission with Mayleaf in the elf village.

maybe i'm a midwit but i didn't catch the plot points at all. it was a dark souls-esque experience where the plot means absolutely jackshit, you're not invested in the setting whatever, but you want to larp as your own homebrew knight/mage/thingie

>you're too much of a bitch to face a dragon
This is a weird part to me of failed Arisens. Weren't they specifically chosen because of the courage they showed before they were Arisen? So even before they had powers, they were brave enough to stand up to absolute terror, but afterwards, they're too cowardly to even try?

Grigori tests to see if your act of bravery came from hopelessness in the face of death or true courage. Edmund's was the former.

they don't have much to lose from standing up against the dragon since they were gonna die anyways. It's much harder to do it when the dragon himself is offering to fuck off for a hundred years until some other arisen gets the call while you get to live a life of comfort and riches in the meantime

how the story all culminates to the concept of the seneschal made it one of my favorite stories in gaming. I felt genuine wonder and soul at the end
