We live in a desperate times where people want to be a part of something, but simultaneously people are very lazy so they don't want to commit. As a result we have second hand fans who are only fans of a game because their favorite/popular influencer liked it.

shmups are hard but not satisfyingly hard, they're arcade bullshit hard that requires you to have autism and play the same stage for 50 hours so you can beat a game that's actually 2 hours long

Most games take 10-20 hours to get a clear, not at all close to 50 for one stage.

If you can be satisfied spending 100 hours on a game, the game is "100 hours long" for you. Most shmups range from 10 minutes to 1 hour long, btw.
