I love moding as an idea. Take the game, and add your own stuff to it, or transform it how you see fit.
But almost all the moders i personally know are drama quens and egomaniacs. And moders i know of are trannies and groomers on top of all the above

99% of modders are horrible people who will burn in hell.

A surprising number of them can make decent content that extends the lifespan of games I love. I played about 200 hours of Slay the Spire before I got bored of it. Modding add another 170+ hours of enjoyment to that.

For a game I bought for like $9 that is an incredible value and, credit where credit is due, the mentally ill and transexuals contributed to that..

mods are beneficial to game devs because it gives their games more life and is basically free DLC that will result in more sales. the only fags who seethe about it are ones who planned to sell a lot of DLC or the fags who own the engines who don't want the dev tools easily accessible

Okay.
>hands out source for live service slop game nobody really cares much for
>bunch of retards try to run it
>inevitably, some giga autist makes it their passion project and manages to make the game playable after 5-10 years
>makes headlines
>people play for 5 minutes, immediately forgotten
I'm of the belief software and pretty much any digital product is free, since it essentially costs nothing to reproduce and distribute, but these games were never designed to last or be re-made. Should they just make single player games single player again, with some central server for online play? Yeah, absolutely, but we don't live in that world anymore.

This is horseshit. 99% of modders make tiny mods that are either QoL or small gameplay changes. The vast majority of mods get no comments and barely any downloads and certainly no drama.

Legally speaking Developers actually have no legal means to assert that they have any ownership stake over mods which is why it's all pursued by extra-legal means like ToS.
The copyright actually belongs to the person who makes the modification since they own and wrote the associated codebase.

>Isn't that literally every Bethesda game?
No not at all. It took 3 months for Skyrim to receive proper mod support and from that point it was up to the community to make whatever they want
Starfield had people wait for 9 months after its release to also publish proper modding tools but that's a minor issue compared to Bethesda did to Starfield's content packages. This system was the same for every one of their games since Morrowind and it worked splendidly but it was changed for Starfield and ended up making things much worse. Modding Starfield is far more difficult and unstable than any of their other games and the only people motivated to actually keep modding it are the creation club members that make paid mods in cooperation with Bethesda directly
It's a complete mess

They also just don't fix shit and rely on modders to patch it. I don't even know why people bother modding or playing these games, the combined autism of modders should be more than enough to create a much more open ended game for anyone to fuck with.

Akshully many countries prevent car mod culture because it can be distracting to other motorists plus whatever you do or install on your vehicle could result in accidents that weren't intended by the car manufacturer that designed you car to be road safe.

Copyright explicitly pertains to the manufacturing and distribution rights of goods, so if you're doing this "software" is like, erm, a service xD stuff you are implicitly also stating that copyright law doesn't actually apply.
Which is technically hilarious if you want to get into the DMCA and other digital ownership laws which actually had nothing to do with copyright (because there was no means to make copyright law apply in that case) and made it a separate crime to do things like circumvent drm.

I ported assets from FO3 to FONV, and made myself a player home with NPC vendors. Does it make sense to include Winterized Combat Armor, and Mothership Zeta gear in NV? No, but I had fun doing it.
Also had to tweak some weapons, because I didn't like the MF Hyper Breeder Alpha's lasers weren't matching the hit sparks, and then I ended up making it compatible with with weapon attachments, but they weren't being reflected in the model so I had to fix that as well
>mfw the hats I added were hugging the side of my face, and I had to figure out what was going on

Despite the fact that their studio only churns out hyper-woke trash, in terms of plot, his pro-costumer stance is admirable.
