If you're not capable of being a social butterfly you won't get anything out of it but shopping, long lines and ogling cosplayers/celebrities. Cons are more for the person who is going to walk up to strangers, strike up a conversation and get their number. If you hate crowds, socializing and people it's the same as any public event but video game themed. If you're not a person who enjoys random conversations with strangers and taking your shot you'll most likely end up getting dunked on or used as a stepping stone by someone more socially apt in that space than you. It's sort of like an easier version of cold approaching people in public, because you know everyone has a shared interest but that can backfire on you if you're not actually fanatical about whatever it is you're at the con for. It's the kind of space where phonies get called out and socially embarrassed because they can't name every pocket monster, so don't be that guy who doesn't actually care about games and is just there to pick up. Everyone is there to pick up (either new friends or chicks), but you can't be obvious about it. You're just there because you "love" Cyberpunk 2077 and know every detail about the lore.

Also, worth mentioning, video game cons are mostly heavily liberal. Most social gatherings or networking events are, so if you can't hide your power level it's just going to end in a witch hunt. You've gotta know all the SJW talking points and be willing to bullshit people if you're gonna be interacting with these people (Don't know why you would want to and I can't recommend it, but you do you). Gotta know your feminisms, your civil rights movements, your ligbt+ lore and be generally politically correct because the people there will shit test you to see if you're part of the tribe or not. Plus, high school never ends, so get used to all the same social posturing, passive aggressive bullying and gossip circles.

Nope, I've been in enough situations with these people to know how vicious they can be if you don't conform to the slightest fraction of their belief system. Cons are going to be mostly drones but the odd time you can find someone who isn't a bootlicker, if you are subtle about it and don't blow their cover.
