Depends. If it shows how it can be twisted then it's basically historically accurate due to how the real life medieval church was far more interested in acquiring influence and money. If it promotes atheism then that's edgy. If it promotes a specific religion then you're probably playing with the author's thinly-veiled religious beliefs depending on how other religions are depicted.
