It was interesting managing standing in sun or shadow, shelter from sand storms, crossing deserts without getting eaten by a worms.
Though even in the early game the problems announce itself. Only having four types of enemy (melee, ranged, ranged suppression, sniper) made the game seriously boring. Yes in higher tiers they get some abilities, but its still all 4 classes.
There is a series of fremen quests that feel like a tutorial rather than gameplay, and by the time you get to them, you've already learned what they would teach.
For some reason there is no fall damage with vehicles. I had a base right outside the shield wall which meant the quick way to mine was get my buggy up there and once I was filled up, fall down to my base.
There are too few people on each server to have much contact with others. I feel like you need to organize outside of the game and coordinate to get much of the social aspect, because the game has little design to promote social play.
But connectivity is what really sealed the deal for me. I wanted to build a next tier buggy. I had a disconnect while driving with a full load buggy across a small desert patch. Then anti-cheat wouldn't let me log back in for 20 minutes. When I came back, the buggy was eaten by a worm.
Sure, shit happens. I used the ornithopter to gather the resources instead even though its less efficient. It felt dumb to build a lower tier buggy again just to immediately get the higher tier. I also needed some resources from the irradiated area. I didn't yet have access to anti rad pills, only antirad suit, so I could only be in the area briefly. You have to fly in, do some mining, fly out before the radiation kills you instantly.
I got some movement bug, where I think the server saw me as having a different location than my pc. I kept being rubberbanded. After 3 minutes of this as I frantically tried to get in my ornithopter to get out of the radiation zone... 1/2
