Well, after Tier 6, there is not much to do and there are a lot of cheaters and griefers...apparently.
But I am still enjoying it cause I have not finished the main story yet and currently am Tier 5.
A lot of crybabies if you ask me. It's a cool game all in all.

Well, when a squad of thopters start shitting rockets at you from outside of render range when you're just trying to get enough mats for your small guild, the game loses its charm.
The Deep Desert is also just generally shit.

Once you beat the story and see the mad fucking grind that T6 is, and the impenetrable bullshit you need to make any meaningful progress, you will change your tune.
That being said im 250 hours in and have enjoyed it a lot.
As a bookfag i am excited to see where the plot goes at the very least

What price point would you say the game is worth at current state? $25?

Yeah, 25 dollars is right assuming that they DON'T meaningfully fix things by the time you get to T6. They've been trying to, but once you hit deep desert the game just falls apart. That zone isn't as interesting as Hagga Basin. I got 150 hours out of it and there's going to be more fixes and content coming. So, maybe my complaints will be gone once that stuff's fixed.
It's a big shame because the game really feels like dune for the vast majority of it.

The Deep Desert is just half baked compared to it and it's pretty clear that the developers ran out of time and or budget when making it. There's no real fixing it without some serious work.

I don't understand any of the issues with T6 because no content in the game even comes close to needing T6 to complete. 100% T6 mats will be replaced or plentiful in the future dlc areas just like Conan did. Deep desert isn't really fun or interesting but it's just there to be an insane grind if you so wish it at the moment. They could stay in T5 having fun but it drives these fomo addicted people insane knowing there is something in the game they can't have and that ruins it for them. Every person complaining it's always the same, saying stuff like it was amazing for 200 hours until deep desert, like bro you got 200+ hours of fun interesting dune lore and gameplay out of a 50 dollar game, move on or reroll.

I played it with a friend, it's a pretty fun game, but once you get to Deep Desert it just becomes boring. There's nothing more to do. Every thing you need to build suddenly starts costing copious amounts of spice, and spice gathering is simply not fun. It doesn't help that the Deep Desert is full of chinese cheaters or just bored gankers flying around in their assault thopters just shooting at everyone. The game simply becomes unfun in the endgame.

How long before Conan was somewhat feature completed?

Okay so basically picture a game where the gameplay loop is you mine a rock to collect a resource to get better at mining a rock to collect a resource and loop that for 100 hours. That's all the game is. Might as well be cookie clicker.

You can swap "mine rock" with "kill NPC"; doesn't change much. NPC's put up as much of a fight as a rock does. Loot chests also put up as much of a fight as a rock does.

So what happened is people jumped into the game, it's got this comfy immersive scenery (at first), the quests are kinda interesting, you mine rock/NPC, progress...

And then that's it. The coolest elements - the worms, the sandstorms, the heat and water survival mechanics - are shallow as hell. 10 hours in and you never have to worry about them again. Further on, you realize you're just mining another rock or NPC or loot chest to "progress" to mining a higher tier rock/npc/chest, and you realize about 40-60 hours in... why the fuck am I still doing this? But you keep plodding along because you think maybe things will change as you get to the higher level areas, and you get the ornithopter and you travel to the deep desert and you travel to the hub-cities.

At 100-150 hours, you finally reach that point where you've cleared across the whole of hagga basin and finally move into the deep desert, the end game area where you're expecting everything to finally click into place.

Except none of it does. You get there and the first thing you encounter is a chinese hacker who promptly jumps into your thopter and steals it despite not having permissions because they did clientside access permissions for everything. You find out there is no PVP in the late stage, it's all just 10vs1 ganking as squads of helicopters 2-shot people on foot with rockets while no anti-air defense even exists, and it only gets worse from there.

So what happened is basically no gameplay loop + retarded game design ideas for the deep desert.

It took them 6 years to get to this point and I would say they have about 30% of a game done. It's a nice looking 30%, but not very well polished. Very buggy in fact, and is missing all the parts that make you want to fire it up and play more.

It's not that everything costs a lot of spice etc to make but flip it around and think about what there is to do if you didn't need to farm any resources anymore - if you had every blueprint, all the spice, all the money, all the mats you could dream of.

What is there to actually do?

There's nothing.

There is nothing to do, no reason to play. Nothing but the resource grind even tries to drive player conflict, (let alone balance it fairly) and the resource grind isn't fun and doesn't do a good job of driving that conflict. They never created anything fun or interesting or engaging in the game. They literally thought of players as some kind of robots that would dutifully go out collect rock, give funcom money, and repeat infinitely and be happy.

Well it turns out people do not like collecting rocks and giving funcom money forever. It's boring and funcom doesn't deserve money. People want to do fun things like fight. Except that's boring too, with NPC's presenting no challenge and PVP consisting of hackers and thopter ganks - you don't even get to try fighting on foot 90% of the time, and then the odd chance you do get to try it's something like wandering into a shipwreck to collect loot from a chest and being instantly killed by 3 guys ambushing you who've been no lifing the game for 300 hours. Oh and btw, there's no in-game tools to group up into guilds or teams, either.

And for most people the thought crossing their mind is - why the fuck am I playing this? I mine rocks, lose 30 hours of progress to a thopter gank or a server transition bug, or a flying fucking sandworm, then go and mine some more rocks to get back from that bullshit and come back and try and loot a shipwreck and get rekt in a 3vs1 gank - and all this for what? Where's the fucking fun? Where's the fun PVP? Where's the survival mechanics? Where's the ANYTHING in this game that's fun to do just for the sake of it?

It's truly bizarre that they made a game based on Dune and there are no honourable duels or even faction based (Atreides vs Harkonnen) larger scale PvP

It's also lost >70% of its launch playerbase and steadily dropping

reviews in the past month are 65% positive
reviews from people with >100 hours played are 49% positive

The game has great presentation and then no actual gameplay after the first few hours. You don't realize it immediately because it dangles this sense that the game is about to turn some new tricks on you and its still tutorial babymode so if you just keep playing a bit longer... and then it never pans out into anything meaningful or fun.

I guess that depends on what you consider complete, it has both a harkonnen and atreides storyline that ends with you being fully admitted into the respective house that is obvious bait for future story content. Seasons, events or dlc because remember this is an mmo lite and they have stated they have 10 years of content planned, if they will deliver on that remains to be seen but it also has a ton of side stories and class quests. You can easily get 150 hours of fun out the game in it's current state which even if you're not a dune fan but if you are it'll be even better with the what if scenario this game has going on with it all being a vision of Paul.

Personally, I had fun at first.

It was interesting managing standing in sun or shadow, shelter from sand storms, crossing deserts without getting eaten by a worms.

Though even in the early game the problems announce itself. Only having four types of enemy (melee, ranged, ranged suppression, sniper) made the game seriously boring. Yes in higher tiers they get some abilities, but its still all 4 classes.

There is a series of fremen quests that feel like a tutorial rather than gameplay, and by the time you get to them, you've already learned what they would teach.

For some reason there is no fall damage with vehicles. I had a base right outside the shield wall which meant the quick way to mine was get my buggy up there and once I was filled up, fall down to my base.

There are too few people on each server to have much contact with others. I feel like you need to organize outside of the game and coordinate to get much of the social aspect, because the game has little design to promote social play.

But connectivity is what really sealed the deal for me. I wanted to build a next tier buggy. I had a disconnect while driving with a full load buggy across a small desert patch. Then anti-cheat wouldn't let me log back in for 20 minutes. When I came back, the buggy was eaten by a worm.

Sure, shit happens. I used the ornithopter to gather the resources instead even though its less efficient. It felt dumb to build a lower tier buggy again just to immediately get the higher tier. I also needed some resources from the irradiated area. I didn't yet have access to anti rad pills, only antirad suit, so I could only be in the area briefly. You have to fly in, do some mining, fly out before the radiation kills you instantly.

I got some movement bug, where I think the server saw me as having a different location than my pc. I kept being rubberbanded. After 3 minutes of this as I frantically tried to get in my ornithopter to get out of the radiation zone... 1/2

I was kicked by the anticheat. I don't fucking cheat. It wouldn't let me in for a day. So if I got back I would either be dead and respawn in my base with no vehicles, or I'd be alive without ornithopter inside a radiation area surrounded by sand.

And what for? The new area felt the same as the one before. The enemies felt the same. The only thing that draws you to new locations is because of the resources you can mine there.

I had the most fun building with a buddy and with raiding bases, but it quickly gets old too.

2/2

They vastly underestimated how much the Chinese are truly rabid animals who fuck shit up for everyone just because they can. I can see now why the Chinese police are so oppressive, because apparently the average Chinaman would burn down his entire village if he could just to watch the pretty lights.

Dune is an insanely overrated franchise. Maybe it was groundbreaking in the 60s but somehow old nerds managed to gaslight everyone into thinking that it is super special and philosophical with deep geopolitical themes which it isn't.

played this game before watching the new movies and now watched the new movies and my feeling is that the game gets the entire survival aspect of the setting wrong.

they had something good going with the worms and heat during the day, and a day/night cycle and needing to stay on top of your water but then basically threw all of the good ideas and gameplay mechanics for that out the window. Made it way too retard friendly to the point there's nothing even there anymore.

If this game were just the first part in the early hagga basin except bigger, and no vehicles at all, and a longer day/night cycle, and no free water dotting the landscape every 10 feet, and the worms were something you watched for and avoided instead of a retarded meter it might have had something interesting and fun going for it.

They had good building blocks to start with and then just went full retard with it.
