Yes, I've beaten it. I think Farewell is also the best level in the entire game as well. The game is great, but unfortunately culture war bullshit means you will never be able to talk about it on this board.

I played it when it came out and I did really enjoy it. In terms of gameplay, it's solid.

It's the trans retcon, man... It was a charming little story about a girl conquering a mountain and her self doubt. Then the creator decided xe was trans and retconned the game to make Madeline trans, too, and declared the game was now a trans allegory. Called the fans transphobic for not liking the retcon. It took something good and made it an absolute groaner.
I wish I didn't know that that happened, because it does take away from the game to me. It was a standard hero's journey tale but now it's been retroactively made into an egg cracking story. I think it does reduce the story and themes and it was totally unnecessary.

Chapters 1-7 were peak gameplay
Chapter 8 was mediocre. I did not care for the gimmicks at all
Chapter 9 was dogshit. Which is funny because it introduced some of my favorite gimmicks, but the levels were too long and had too many instant death blocks.

Chapter 9 is meant to be done after you've cleared all the C-sides. I don't think any individual screen is really harder than the C-sides until at least you get the past the wall, and even then I think only final screen is kind of bad (I like the idea of a final, minutes long screen with no checkpoints, but its entirely focused on the jellyfish with little of the other level's mechanics).

I didn't mind the jellyfish in itself but the motion to throw and regrab them was kinda awkward and unsatisfying and I really wish they didn't make you do it constantly. The special song variation just for that section alone redeemed it though

It was one of the best platformers I've played. I did all the A and most of the B-sides. Can't be bothered for the golden strawberries. The only levels I didn't enjoy were the time-based ones where you have a small time window pass through some corridor.

The base campaign isn't too bad. It has some tricky parts but nothing too crazy. It's a genuinely fun game with good mechanics and level design. The bonus levels are brutal.

Its a pretty solid platformer and i got it around the time it came out, I even went out if my way to get all the C-sides completed. I remember specifically every outlet giving it a 10/10 and tried it for curiosity sake. Even before all the Trans garbage came out I thought the story for this game was dogshit and skipped it.
All things considered I think its fine, the story bits absolutely drag down what is ultimately a mechanically sound 2D platformer but you’ll defiantly get more out if something like Super meat boy or Dust force instead
