There are a bunch of characters in the game that aren't in the dev diaries.
>>716037914
These characters have no relation to Hardsuit's game. They threw out the whole story and all the characters. So Samuel (Hardsuit) and Tolly (TCR) have the same face but are a completely different person with no similarities besides being a Nosferatu.

Your vampire roommate in Hardsuit's version (the one talking in the trailers) was recycled into a character named Dale Beecher. He has nothing in common with the Hardsuit roommate character.

I'm curious what Hardsuit model was recycled for "The Gardener", or whether they came up with a new model. Mr. Damp seems like an obvious one to borrow, but maybe too on the nose.

Are they seriously going the tremere = STEMfag route? Like really? The ex-hermetic mages? Do they not know of VTMโ€™s cultural influences? Are they just going by the idea that they like experimentation, so they must be STEMfags? Elif had a more realistic look for a Tremere, because she most definitely had a witchy look. They could have at least gone for a character who is supposed to be a psychologist or an anthropologist, you know the type of academic that is believable for Tremere

The archetype of the hard science Tremere has long existed, I don't really see an issue here. The matter is more going to be where the other clan members land.
I was more bothered by the Tremere Boston Chantry in Swansong being composed of black people only. Unless there's a story reason that went over my head, that felt weird.

Wesp confirmed he was a returning character, after he got the chance to play the HSL build. With that in mind, his role seems pretty obvious. He was Vandal Cleaver, and the "Baron" Mr Damp served was Voerman, who was brutally conquering a new city.

The main issue isn't the homogeneity of skin color, it's the context within which it's happening. A clan or group entrenched within a given local community often makes sense in VtM, but the Tremere are probably the worst fit for it. They tend to be perfectly utilitarian in their choice of progeny and the need to scoop talent in occultism - a rarefied, very spread out field - means they need to diversify to meet their needs.
Even if there was, say a great familly of occultist in Hartford, there's only need of one vampire to take control of it, then you seek over venues to parasite for expansion.
I mean, I don't have a strong epidermic aversion to it, but without proper context it very much feels off.

I don't know, I think there's not really enough material to properly judge.
Both are pretty solid conceptually, I think. The matter is going to be execution.
What troubles me is that writing was supposed to be TCR's forte and from the very little we've seen of both, the Hardsuit team definitely had the upper hand. ("I'm a beautiful way to die" was perfect for Toreador)

Definitely an issue. I have a feeling the person that wrote the blurbs wasn't the one that wrote the characters. The blurbs are layered with weird disconnetcs like that. The Assamites had one of the worst offenders for me:
>Niko is wholly committed to living an honest life, to the point of barely being able to keep a single thought to himself.
>โ€œThis vase belonged to a man who promised to visit his mother in hospital but did not. So I ripped out his spleen. Some people really do not know how to behave!โ€
Which feels so off it's not even funny.

I do hope that when the dust settles Paradox are willing to release materials from the cancelled version. Release some kind of deep dive documentary so people can have their curiosity satisfied. Unfortunately a lot of companies like to hide how the sausage was made.

The problem is that there is 99% chance that the Hardsuit version, Elif, Damp, all that stuff was canned because it fucking sucked. That's the blunt reality of it all. Paradox didn't piss away all that money and scrap everything for a laugh. There was something deeply wrong with the game, otherwise they would have just hired Sumo to polish up the game design and get it shipped in 12 months. They brought in another company to essentially redo the game from scratch design/writing wise but reuse assets to cut costs. You'd be surprised how much assets cost to make in game dev. If you can halve the number of character designs you have to make, you can save a lot of money. Every asset they can reuse is an asset they don't have to pay someone to make. They didn't actually save all that much time in terms of development time. This has still taken 4-5 years to make. But they saved money, and that was always the more important consideration. Linkedin posts make it pretty clear that Paradox wanted to keep costs down and this was an a pressure that has affected the entire game.

Just because the characters claim something doesn't mean it has to be literal truth.
I personally /love/ house Carna as a catastrophic collapse waiting to happen.
In the case of Elif: just becasue she claimed to be nice doesn't mean she wasn't a little tyrant wolf in sheep's clothings.

Hoping in vein. That shit is going to be forever vacuum sealed and burned. It's going to be many years until someone tries to whistleblow about the troubled development. Which is a shame. Then again, that's also how people are forced to connect dots and couple together facts that may or may not be true, like if Brian Mitsoda cheated on his wife with Cara Elingson which is why development faltered and which is also why his wife filed divorce papers around that period, etc. How the studio did absolutely not work during covid and that the Ubisoft executive game salvager saw this and told Paradox.

It appears the developers are not entirely allergic to midriffs, so hopefully we do see some character designs like Elif. One paranoia people had was that Elif would be too SEXUAL for the new art direction of the project. But I think that's not the case. I think is a shame that they're obviously gonna avoid outright sleaze, though. I get quite a bit of Swansong energy, and I think that's just reflective of the brand Paradox want.

It's weird how V5 really went hard on the "sexism on the pyramid angle". Like, it existed, but some of the most iconic Tremere were women and in their backstories sexism existed, but it wasn't a huge deal.

One thing TCR seems to get right is the exaggerrated features of WoD. The architecture is more vertical, more extreme. HSL was too obsessed with creating a to-scale and accurate Seattle. Probably because the studio was based there.

It is interesting to reflect that very few developers have ever VOLUNTEERED to make a VTM game. It was almost always pushed onto them by someone else. Redemption and Bloodlines were existing pitches greenlit on the condition that they be reworked into VTM games because the publisher owned VTM. Bloodlines 2 was allegedly pushed onto TCR by Sumo.

In their press statement, Sumo talked about their desire to work on fresh original IPs. It's hard to know if this is pragmatism of bitterness on their part. Because you can draw some parallels to Larian being pretty clear they're never working on licensed games like Baldur's Gate 3 ever again.

I am eagerly anticipating the game, but deep down I'm worried that the team bit off more than they could chew. If you read Glass Door it's a mixed bag, and one of the recurring points is that the studio was/is understaffed and the game was coming in super hot with its original Q4 2024 release. Now of course they've been given two delays. And that's good. But it speaks to behind the scenes disorganization and chaos that will probably show in the final product. It's the sorta game where official screenshots have typos. That is so weird to me.

That said, I could see this being an Atomic Heart situation where everyone is shocked by how polished the final product is despite the obvious seams.

Sorry, to clarify, TCR said they're excited to work on original properties. Sumo have stopped all work on original games and only want to do outsource work. They were looking to sell or close down TCR. So TCR found some venture capitalist types to help them buy themselves out.

It wasn't their choice to begin with. As the story goes, when Paradox was extremely unsatisfied with Hardsuit Labs and pulled the game away from them they considered cancelling the game entirely. Sumo Digital, the publisher, then approached Paradox and said they could continue the work, which Paradox agreed on. Sumo Digital then hoisted game development over on The Chinese Room without giving them much of a choice.

I really don't know what the big idea is delaying their marketing push until LITERALLY three months from release. I figure they're gonna release the new gameplay walkthrough and stuff in the last week of July at the earliest. If they pus hit back to mid August that's even more insane to me. This game needs a big clarifying PR push, and the longer they leave it, the more confusion sets in. I sometimes feel like Paradox are not the right company to be in charge of this because they fucking suck at marketing.

True. That rumour seems very solid because it goes all the way back to mid-2021 well before it was public knowledge that TCR had taken over. Allegedly the original release timeline was "2 years". That lines up with vague talk about how the game could maybe release in 2023. That was what paradox had wanted. Something cheap, fast, nasty. But evidently TCR were able to persuade them to allow the project to continue. Also Paradox likely started getting cold feet about releasing a shit, unfinished game.

CK3 and everyone is a vampire, yea. But there is some fun worldbuilding in there that makes it different. Like vampire powers, managing your hunger and masquerade exposure. And the big end game crisis that you are forced to fight is the rise of the Shadow Inquisition when it starts purging Europe of vampires, so you get to experience those events first hand.

Some interesting decisions you can make too, depending on which clan you choose to be a part of.

One thing I never understood about WoD is why the fuck didn't pivot to more traditional cRPGs, the type of games designed from ground up to be way more like the tabletops and easier to translate? We've had 1 shitty attempt with the VtM Retribution and that was it. Vampire specifically and also Demon and Mage are designed in ways to either discourage or straight up skip combat to be more social heavy too

No one will fund it because market research shows that only fantasy cRPGs do well, dark ages could probably work but it's a niche in a niche setting-wise.

I guess I can see this one, although I really enjoyed how you were rewarded for paying attention because the antagonist wasn't something you could just punch a hole through through normal means and you learned how to fight it through folk lore and research mixed together.
That, and the characters were really interesting to me so I didn't have any problems with the text dumps unlike PoE1 for example where I would read everything some spouted but couldn't get myself to read others

How can people here unironically support this garbage?
Like, don't you know the original team got hijacked by woke cultists and suddenly the game entered in development hell (unsurprisingly)?
They make all characters ugly because they say it's discriminating to make pretty characters, they removed malkavians talking to regular objects because they say that offensive to people who suffer from real mental conditions, etc.
And you want this game to come out? It should burn.

>concerted effort by these pathetic shills to hype this game up in the past several months.
More than that. I think ever since the game got revealed as being made by TCR.
It was actually quite funny. The shill went though different phases, where he had recurring topics and phrases.
>The Dan Pinchbeck Phase
Here, the shill would constantly extolls the virtues of the fag that wrote Still Wakes the Deep. How it was his vision that made VtMB2; how his leaving don't matter because the writing was already done. He also started mentioning how it was a totally different game from the Hardsuit version and that there's no proof the game is gonna be woke.
>The Deus Ex Phase
After people mocked him relentlessly for his gay Dan Pinchbeck sucking off, he shifted gears. The recurring point now was how the game would be like Deus Ex HR and MD. How it was sorta like them, a modernized take on classic; how the RPG elements were all there;
Now he seems to have jumped into a different phase where his shilling is less obivous but some of the previous points are there.

I'm sorry to have to misquote a malkavian on this bitch, but seriously, the level of paranoia on display here is staggering.
The fact that you can barge in a thread where the general consensus can be summed up as "the game is very much unlikely to live up to the original, but we hope it's decent enough that we have something of a good time out of it" and and see it as concerted shilling is mind-boggling.
You've reached a level of militant negativity where even lukewarm, wet-blanket takes is too much to bear for you.

Shills have been caught red-handed here many, many times. Our paranoia is fully legitimate and substantiated. Also, guerilla marketing for any game usually means it will be dogshit, and rare exceptions only prove the rule.
In addition, VTMB2 has been a cocktease for 20 years, with endless bouncing back and forth between studios, trailers that amounted to nothing, insiders feeding people bullshit, and all sorts of development hell.
Therefore, be so kind to excuse our scepticism, nigger.

That would actually be cool if done well. Honestly they could make it from the ground up from the perspective of a 3rd person RPG/FPRPG like Deus Ex but reskinned with World of Darkness with a need to periodically feed blood from human NPCs and the game would win GotY. This is such an easy game to make and get millions to pay attention with the basest of coomerbait, I wish I knew how to make games.

No, it's not, there's very few studios in history of the medium that could pull it off, and right now with all the lay offs, the talent is hemorrhaging.
As Conlotanio said in a recent interview, money people think they can just spit money when needed and make it happen on demand, when in truth it takes a lot of time and effort to gather all the talents needed and turn them into a working team.
I mean, I'm not even sure there's a studio beside Arkane Lion that has a reliable chance of pulling this off right now.

>>716100145
I haven't so much given a glance to the hunter orgs since V5 (no use for them in the recent games I've ran), so I'm not taking any bet. That said, if he *is* tied to an org, I won't be surprised.

That was a returning character: Damsel from the first game. She's actually in this version, but I think her character model is new. At this point it's unclear if Jeanette is also returning (she was in the Hardsuit version apparently?) The difficulty lies in two things. One, the team is reluctant to have memberberry callbacks. Two, the plot is completely rewritten.

But yea, the Hardsuit version of Bloodlines 2 was a mess. And this was starting to show in the marketing where the game was supposedly getting closer to release, but things looked very strange.

The drip feeding of information is starting to get old. The game is 3 months out. This isn't the time for pussyfooting. This isn't the time for "wait until Gamescom". Give us a big meaty chunk of like 30 minutes of gameplay, a cross-section of exploration, quests, combat, stealth, all that good stuff. If the game is good, it will be self-evidently so. (Although to be honest, I went back and looked at the 2024 footage, and you know what? Nothing about it looks specifically bad. I think people were bitching and moaning because of mismatched expectations. Using a dream sequence was an odd choice to show off the game.)

What really bothered me with that demo is the writing. That is supposed to be TCR's forte, and what that demo was showing was not good.

In fact, I'm struck by what a huge jump in quality the writing (and voice acting) in the 2024 demo is over the 2019 footage. The Nosferatu character is particularly well acted. The mixing is a bit off, but that's not really an issue of writing or acting.

Looked at it again a couple of days ago, actually.
That moment when the nosferatu is spilling the beans? Awkward writing by itself (especially when they could use the device they've already set up of you hearing his phone conversation while you wander the illsuion to give you that data). But then your character explaining to you what you've just seen? And then Captain Obvious in your head restating it just in case? No, that was really awkward.
Not enough to dismiss the work completely. But worrying.

As a counterpoint, in some of the best RPGs (in the large sense) the plot is irrelevant.
> Skyrim
Something something dragons, but you can fuck off and do whatever you want.
> Dark Souls
Something something undead, now go fight the boss.
> Diablo 2
Something something Diablo.

These game tell you what to do to get the next portion of the game loop, and there's also a story, but you're free to listen or not. To look at it from the player's perspecrive, vidya writers are not entitled to player attention, especially given that they tend to write

I'm reasonably confident someone whacks the sheriff (Benny Muldoon) fairly early in the game, and you get the job. Of course my immediate thought is that maybe this was the plan. Maybe you are not quite what you think you are and are in fact some kind of double agent that the villain is positioning into a position of power.

A core distinction between the games you mention and Bloodlines 2 is that in the later, the manipulation of narrative elements happens to be part of the gameplay. As such, quality of writing and of the narrative bricks, so to speak, are vital matters. You can't totally ignore them, they're your building materials.

If you enter a Skyrim thread, everybody will tell you to play the game modded and that there isn't anything worthwhile in the vanilla experience. "The Gardener" is plausibly a returning VTMB1 character. There's a quote from Lou in the "delayed to October" video:
>There was someone... I'd forgotten, I thought he was gone. His destruction will change everything.
Then again, he could be someone completely new. I'm not deep enough in VTM lore to know if there's a Seattle-oriented character that could turn up like this.

Bloodlines is derivative of Deus Ex only if you're one of the retards that think it's an "immersive sim". The fact of the matter that you're trying desperately to move away from is this: VtMB is remembered solely for its atmosphere, character designs/animations and writing. All three of those aspects showcased so far have not hit the mark and Paradox has been running damage control in order to compare the game to other games that are not related to VtMB in order to lessen the blow.

I personally think that games end up being good thanks to managing to favorably present the setting and thanks to beinng accessible, but despite whatever trash (plot lines, personal philosophy, fetishes, etc) devs shove in. Ao dor me, the best case scenario for a VtMB2 game is somehing that focuses more on showing how cool it is to be a Vampire in some American downtown (ok, sounds dodgy already, but devs gotta make an effort) and leass on some particular details of a particular plot, which is going to be hard to care about.

>Adam was the first gardener and farmer, after all.
Interesting... It could be Caine, though.
>In the course of time Cain brought some of the fruits of the soil as an offering to the LORD.
>And Abel also brought an offeringโ€”fat portions from some of the firstborn of his flock. The LORD looked with favor on Abel and his offering, but on Cain and his offering he did not look with favor. So Cain was very angry, and his face was downcast.
>Then the LORD said to Cain, โ€œWhy are you angry? Why is your face downcast? If you do what is right, will you not be accepted? But if you do not do what is right, sin is crouching at your door; it desires to have you, but you must rule over it.โ€
>Now Cain said to his brother Abel, โ€œLetโ€™s go out to the field.โ€ While they were in the field, Cain attacked his brother Abel and killed him.
>Then the LORD said to Cain, โ€œWhere is your brother Abel?โ€ โ€œI donโ€™t know,โ€ he replied. โ€œAm I my brotherโ€™s keeper?โ€

Ok, I guess I see your point: if VtMB2 is not developed as CRPG, but rather some kind of adventure.or walking simulator game rhen what I say doesn't apply. Given how long VtMB2 was in development, maybe Paradox indeed wants that Last of Us audience.

VtMB2 shouldn't be developed as anything other than the sequel to VtMB, which isn't what's happening here. The game lacks all the aspects that made the original memorable in the first place and has focused entirely on chasing trends. It's not even really gothic. As one anon put it: you get the sense Troika fucked, Chinese Room doesn't fuck.

You only need functioning eyes and a pocket empty of a Paradox check. A map devoid of any gothic charm or the rundown feel of VtMB, lackluster character writing, dialogue done in the style of Mass Effect (because they brought in a guy from fucking BioWare) with absolutely zero bite to it and wouldn't feel out of place in Fallout 4, character designs that are completely nondescript or extremely derivative (look at the fucking Asterion Ventrue), absolutely shit animations, etc.

Because it's 20 years later and they're going for a noir style instead of an industrial style.
>lackluster character writing
Seems fine to me. The voice acting and writing in general seem worlds beyond the earlier Bloodlines 2 attempt, at least.
>dialogue done in the style of Mass Effect
Why do people list a bunch of games when the dialogue is a direct ripoff of the Deus Ex system? Like what the fuck? No wonder Embracer cancelled the new Deus Ex. Obviously nobody played it.

Because in your deep shill retardation you don't seem to understand that the first Deus Ex game is called Deus Ex and when you talk about a "Deus Ex system" anyone that isn't a shill with the same obligatory bullet points as you will think of the original Deus Ex.
And it's not like DXHR. It's way closer to something like Inquisition.

I genuinely can't tell if you're a marketer or just actually mentally challenged anymore. Your obsession with Deus Ex is concerning. The team has an ex-BioWare dev at the top ranks. Nevertheless, VtM as a concept and setting is deeply intertwined with gothic culture. What we're seeing is generic as fuck sleek trash that elicits no emotional response. Again, the unique ATMOSPHERE is the main draw for VtMB. As for the character designs, I showcased Phyre because they're the most egregious example and the PC. Phyre's designs have nothing unique going for them unlike in VtMB. Nobody will remember Assamite Phyre in a hoodie fondly.

Yes. From the game's original director.
>The inspirations were clear for me: dark US dramas like Succession, The Sopranos, The Wire, House of Cards. Anchor the gothic in the contemporary. Know that monsters exist in boardrooms and bars everywhere. Know that we live in a world that pretends itโ€™s slick and sophisticated but where weโ€™re still beating each other to death with the jawbones of asses. Know that you could get knifed for being in the wrong place at the wrong time, but youโ€™re as likely to die from the poison dumped into your water in the pursuit of profit. Know that immortality is a curse as well as a blessing and that too much power strips humanity away like acid.
The Sopranos is an explicit influence.

Eh, I don't quite agree. The look VTMB2 is going for is ripping off Only God Forgives, John Wick, The Neon Demon, also Drive to some degree. Cyberpunk 2077 has Keanu Reeves in it, but the overall visual direction of the game isn't quite the same. There's shared influences, but I can't really call Cyberpunk NOIR. VTMB2 is explicitly noir. It has a noir soundtrack. You have a detective in your head. The streets are snowy and lit by burning neon. There is a core aesthetic here that is different to what Cyberpunk aspires for.

There's a shitload of Blade Runner influence in Cyberpunk 2077. But it doesn't really visually have the same aesthetic tone.

The plot, characters, and general design of VTMB2 were laid out by Dan Pinchbeck (who wrote and directed every TCR game) before he left the studio in 2023.
www.danpinchbeck.co.uk/vampire
The game has absolutely changed, and he didn't write the dialogue, but the central vision of this game was his. He came up with Phyre, including the name. He came up with Fabien. He came up with the art direction, the central story themes, all of it. Then other people took over. The game is still very much a reflection of his ideas, evolved by other developers.

I don't doubt that aspects of the plot will be good since Mitsoda and his guys worked on it

It won't be enough to fix all the other shit that comes from the very fact that trannoid libs have made This game

Mitsoda's version was a disaster that even Paradox recognized and from everything we've seen it was just "I CLAPPED! I CLAPPED WHEN I SAW [Reference to the original game]!" I honestly don't know which mentality is more trash, the current one or Mitsoda's.

Dan Pinchbeck threw away everything the previous team wrote. In his words "We were never going to finish someone else's game."
